🤯 An AI Disaster Strikes Again!

You know that saying, "With great power comes great responsibility"? Well, it couldn't be more accurate in the world of AI.
Unfortunately, it seems like that responsibility is getting harder and harder to manage.
You might want to grab a seat for this one because what I'm about to share led to a multinational finance firm losing a whopping $25 million to a deepfake scam!
So here’s what happened:
A finance worker at this multinational company received a message from the company's UK-based CFO asking for a secret transaction to be carried out.
Initially, he was suspicious and thought it was a phishing email.
However, after attending a video call with what he thought were several other members of the company, he put aside his doubts and processed the transaction.
Little did he know that all the people on the call were deepfake recreations!
It's sad to hear stories like this, but the truth is AI tools are becoming more sophisticated by the minute, and it's getting harder to distinguish between real and fake.

🚫 Meta Takes Steps to Tackle AI-Generated Misinformation!

Election is around the corner, and with stories like the one we just shared (the $25 million deepfake scam), it's clear that it's becoming increasingly difficult to distinguish between what's real and what's fake.
But Meta is working on something to make it easier for us to spot fakes.
Meta will start labeling AI-created photos uploaded on Facebook, Instagram, and Threads in the coming months.
They already apply an “Imagined with AI” watermark to images created with its own Imagine AI generator, but soon, It will also be applied to AI-generated photos made with tools from tech giants like Google, OpenAI, Microsoft, Adobe, Midjourney, and Shutterstock.
This way, you can be sure about the authenticity of the content you come across.
But that’s not all - users who try to pass off their AI-generated videos or audio as real will face penalties ranging from warnings to post-removal
Meta’s clearly on high alert for how such media can be used to deceive, but they probably won’t be able to catch everything on their own. So, you still have to be on the lookout.👀
Other tech giants aren’t left out either;
Adobe recently released the Content Credentials system that puts content provenance information into the metadata of images, while Google extended its SynthID watermark to audio files after releasing it in beta for images.
