🛍️ Google’s Shopping Tab Gets AI Upgrade!

Google’s Shopping tab is finally getting the AI touch.

When you search for a product now, Google will provide an AI brief with helpful insights to guide your shopping experience.

For example, if you're looking for a "men’s winter jacket for Seattle," Google will give you a summary of things you should know before buying one for that specific climate.

In addition to these AI briefs, you'll also see relevant products to speed up your search, and each recommended product will come with a brief description of why it might be perfect for you.

Google’s AI will, for example, show you a list of “Synthetic insulated winter jackets for Seattle” or “3-in-1 winter jackets for Seattle.”

It may also point out that a parka “is made with a recycled nylon shell that can keep you warm in subzero temperatures.” Super helpful, right?

In fact, you can get more specific by using filters to see more tailored results, like searching for a certain size or jacket available in stock near you.

Plus, your recommendations will be in a scrollable design, similar to TikTok’s shopping feed.

Google says it's combined 45 billion product listings in its Shopping Graph with Gemini models to revamp the Shopping tab, so we're expecting big things.

But as you may have noticed, this AI brief feature is similar to AI Overviews on Search, which had a rocky start.

However, with the new Shopping AI briefs, Google acknowledges upfront that the experimental feature may not always be perfect.

The new features are rolling out in the U.S. over the coming weeks, so fingers crossed.

In the meantime, you can learn more about it here.

🤔 US Considers Expanding AI Chip Export Restrictions!

The Biden administration is seriously considering placing stricter limits on AI chip exports, specifically from big players like Nvidia and AMD, to certain countries.

And guess who's in the hot seat this time? The Persian Gulf nations.

Apparently, it’s all about national security (because, you know, nothing screams "danger" like some cutting-edge AI tech, right?).

These restrictions were originally designed to slow down China’s AI development, but now Uncle Sam is considering widening the net.

Currently, the talks are still in the “maybe, maybe not” stage, but the word is that US officials are warming up to the idea fast.

But what’s most interesting is that this whole clampdown talk comes right after a new Commerce Department rule that actually makes it easier for Middle Eastern data centers to snag these AI chips.

Instead of jumping through hoops for individual licenses, they can just apply for a broader “Validated End User” status.

This is basically a fancy way of saying a license that covers all their needs, like a "get-out-of-jail-free" card for AI chips.

But if these new restrictions kick in, that sweet setup might not be enough to keep the chips flowing.

And let’s be real: Nvidia and AMD aren’t exactly going to be thrilled about this.

They’re two of the biggest names in AI chips, and their international sales could take another hit.

After all, the US already slapped chip export restrictions on over 40 countries last year, including some in the Middle East, all to stop China from getting its hands on these high-tech goodies.

As for official comments? Absolute radio silence.

Nvidia, AMD, and the US Commerce Department are keeping their lips sealed. So, we’ll just have to sit back and watch this AI chip drama play out.
