What you might be missing in AI right now

Plus, Microsoft expands infrastructure for OpenAI’s GPT-4.5 and GPT-5.

Hello and welcome to the Automated, your AI tour guide.

AI is evolving fast, but are you keeping up? The latest advancements in Advanced Reasoning and Deep Search are turning AI from a basic answer machine into a true problem solver.

If you’re still relying on outdated models, you might be missing out on some serious game-changers.

🦾 The Latest AI Capabilities You Shouldn’t Ignore.

AI is finally learning to think—not just spit out answers like a rushed student cramming for a test.

Two game-changing abilities, Advanced Reasoning and Deep Search, are making AI way more useful, whether you’re solving complex problems, hunting down real-time information, or just trying to get an answer that isn’t outdated or shallow.

Advanced Reasoning: Because Guesswork Isn’t Good Enough

Old-school AI models were basically overconfident trivia machines. They could pull up facts, but ask them a tricky question, and they’d either make stuff up or completely miss the point.

Now? AI is learning to reason—breaking down problems, checking its own logic, and actually thinking before it speaks. (Which, honestly, is more than I can say for some people online.)

What does this mean for you?
  • More accurate answers: AI models with advanced reasoning don't just grab the first thing it finds and run with it—it works through the problem logically, which means fewer mistakes.

  • Better problem-solving: Whether you're debugging code, planning your finances, or tackling a complicated project, AI models with advanced reasoning can guide you step by step instead of throwing vague suggestions at you.

  • Smarter discussions: They can also understand context, sarcasm, and nuance, so it won’t take you literally when you say, “Tell me something I don’t know.”

  • Handles multi-step questions: Instead of dumping a one-line answer, it guides you through complex topics, making it more useful for learning and brainstorming.

  • Logical inference/Knowledge integration: The best part is how they can draw conclusions based on the information provided, even if it’s not explicitly stated, plus how they can also combine information from various sources to form a comprehensive understanding.

We’ve all been there—Googling something only to land on a shady SEO-optimized blog that barely answers the question. Or worse, scrolling endlessly through search results that feel like they were written by AI stuck in 2018.

Deep Search fixes that by actually understanding what you’re looking for and pulling in relevant, up-to-date info—including from social media, where real people discuss things as they happen.

Here’s why this is a game-changer:
  • No more outdated info: Deep Search fetches fresh, up-to-date insights instead of relying on old AI training data.

  • Cuts through misinformation & SEO spam: Instead of grabbing the highest-ranking page, it cross-checks sources and prioritizes useful info over clickbait.

  • Saves you time: Instead of spending 20 minutes Googling and clicking through useless links, Deep Search does the work for you, serving up a ready-to-go summary.

  • Great for real-time updates: Whether it’s breaking news, stock market shifts, or the latest tech trend, Deep Search keeps up.

Why This Matters?

If AI is going to be useful, it needs to be more than a glorified search bar. With Advanced Reasoning, it can think. With Deep Search, it can find relevant, real-time info.

Put them together, and you’ve got an AI that doesn’t just answer questions—it solves problems, stays informed, and saves you time.

And guess what? ChatGPT, Grok 3, and other major competitors are already flexing their Advanced Reasoning skills. Some models might be great at trivia, while others tackle more abstract problems and complex decision-making.

Here’s something interesting: ChatGPT and Gemini both have reasoning modes, but you sometimes have to manually tell them to “think before responding” (which begs the question—what were they doing before?).

Meanwhile, Grok 3 is stepping it up with Deep Search, pulling in real-time insights from the internet (including X posts).

In contrast, ChatGPT and Gemini rely on their knowledge cutoff dates unless you manually enable browsing—and even then, they don’t deeply integrate real-time social media content.

So the next time you use AI, don’t overlook these game-changing abilities.

 💾 Microsoft Expands Infrastructure for OpenAI’s GPT-4.5 and GPT-5.

Microsoft is ramping up its infrastructure to support OpenAI’s next-generation AI models, with GPT-4.5 expected to roll out as early as next week and GPT-5 anticipated in late May.

The move signals growing AI demand as competition intensifies in the generative AI space.

Sources told The Verge that Microsoft is preparing its Azure cloud platform to host OpenAI’s GPT-4.5, a “mid-generation” update reportedly trained with synthetic data to improve efficiency.

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has confirmed that GPT-4.5 is on the way but hasn’t provided an exact release date.

Meanwhile, GPT-5 is expected to integrate OpenAI’s latest reasoning model, "o3," which could significantly enhance AI capabilities.

Microsoft is already hosting OpenAI’s models on Azure, but it’s making one thing clearits service operates independently from OpenAI’s tools, including ChatGPT.

Last month, the two companies deepened their partnership under Stargate, U.S. President Donald Trump’s ambitious $500 billion AI initiative.

OpenAI also locked in a fresh, large-scale Azure commitment, ensuring Microsoft’s cloud continues powering everything from ChatGPT to OpenAI’s next wave of AI advancements.

With GPT-4.5 just around the corner and GPT-5 on the horizon, Microsoft’s expanded infrastructure cements its role as the backbone of OpenAI’s future innovations.

And as the AI race heats up, all eyes are on what these next-gen models will bring—and whether they’ll redefine the limits of what AI can do.

✍️ Editor’s Corner

I hosted my friend and former Dean of London Business School, Sir Andrew Likierman, for a talk at a side event at Consensus in Hong Kong. He talked about his new book Judgment at Work.

There was one part where he talked about judgment in the Age of AI. His conclusion, after talking to his Oxford philosophy tutor and others, is that AI cannot ultimately make judgment.

I would go one further - I think that human judgment is even more important in the age of AI.

We can have AI analyze for us. We can have it research for us. But we cannot and should not let AI make judgment for us.

Cheers,
