๐Ÿ’ผ AI Hiring in the U.S. government!

The US White House has announced a new policy to promote the safe use of AI within its agencies.

From now on, all US federal agencies must hire a chief AI officer who will oversee and verify that any AI systems used by an agency do not risk the rights and safety of the American people.

For example, if the Veterans Administration wants to use AI in VA hospitals to help doctors diagnose patients, they would first have to show that AI does not produce racially biased diagnoses.

But thatโ€™s not all โ€” agencies must also establish AI governance boards and submit an annual report to the new Office of Management and Budget (OMB) listing all AI systems they use, any associated risks, and how they plan to mitigate these risks.

And if an agency cannot apply these safeguards, the agency must stop using the AI system!

The policy expands on President Joe Bidenโ€™s executive order, which required federal offices to create safety standards and increase the number of AI talent working in government. So, its not coming out of the blue!

In fact, some agencies had already started hiring chief AI officers before now. The Department of Justice, for example, appointed Jonathan Meyer as its first CAIO in February to work on using AI in law enforcement.

Canโ€™t wait for all the announcements to start pouring in! Any ideas on who might be appointed?

๐Ÿ’ช Microsoft is stepping up its game to protect AI chatbots!

Troublemakers beware! Microsoft is now on the lookout for anyone using chatbots to cause trouble!

They just unveiled a game-changing feature called โ€œPrompt Shieldsโ€ that protects AI chatbots from being exploited or abused, especially from two different types of attacks.

The first type of attack is known as a direct attack or a jailbreak, whereby the person using the chatbot writes a prompt directly designed to manipulate the AI into acting against its normal rules and limitations.

For example, someone may write a prompt with such keywords or phrases as "ignore previous instructions" or "system override" to intentionally bypass security measures.

Then there's the indirect attack, in which hackers or other shady characters send information to chatbot users, aiming to pull off cyberattacks.

Want to get your hands on this bad boy? Prompt Shields is currently available in preview mode for Azure AI Content Safety, will soon be available in Azure AI Studio, and will be available for Azure OpenAI Service on April 1.
