🦾 AI that Sees the Storms Coming

Microsoft just dropped Aurora β€” a shiny new AI model trained on over a million hours of weather data. Not even exaggerating.

This thing devours satellite feeds, radar input, weather station logs, and simulation forecasts like its brunch.

And now? It’s serving up shockingly accurate predictions on everything from air quality to full-blown typhoons.

No jokes here β€” it’s actually been proven to beat human meteorologists at their own game.

A few wild highlights:

  • Aurora predicted Typhoon Doksuri’s landfall in the Philippines... four days early. That’s before some experts even had a clue.

  • It outperformed the National Hurricane Center in forecasting five-day tropical cyclone tracks for the 2022–2023 season. Yes, really.

  • And that massive Iraq sandstorm in 2022? Aurora saw it coming too. (Imagine being able to cancel your outdoor plans before the dust hits your lungs.)

And unlike traditional forecasting systems that need hours and massive supercomputers to run, Aurora does its thing in seconds. Literal seconds.

The best part? Microsoft isn’t gatekeeping.

They’ve made the source code and model weights public, so if you’re into AI or weather science, you can mess around with it too.

Oh β€” and heads up β€” they’re already rolling Aurora tech into the MSN Weather app, which means your hourly forecasts are about to level up big time. Yes, even for cloud cover.

Bottom line?

Microsoft’s not just chasing storms β€” it’s redefining how we see them coming.

And if Aurora keeps this up, the next-gen weather report might sound a lot less like β€œmaybe rain” and more like β€œbrace yourself, it’s coming at 3:47 PM.”

The only question now is: Can you trust an AI to predict the weather better than your favorite weather app or experts?

πŸ”§ AI Troubleshooter: When ChatGPT Randomly Stops Mid-Sentence

Hey AI fans β€” we’re back with another fix, and this one’s for when ChatGPT just decides to peace out mid-reply.

Like… it’s typing, you’re vibing β€” and then boom β€” silence.

Yeah. We’ve been there. It’s like being ghosted by your own chatbot.

But don’t worry β€” there’s an easy fix:

  • Just Say β€œContinue” (Seriously): If ChatGPT suddenly goes quiet mid-answer, just reply with β€œContinue,” β€œGo on,” or even β€œPlease finish that thought.” It usually picks up right where it left off, like nothing happened.

  • Ask for Smaller Chunks: If it keeps cutting off on longer tasks (especially those β€œwrite me a full report” prompts), try breaking it down. Add: β€œGive me this in short chunks” or β€œAnswer this in three parts”. This makes it easier for ChatGPT to breathe and not crash mid-thought.

  • Control the Length: Another trick? Ask ChatGPT to keep things brief or give a word limit like: β€œSummarize this in under 150 words.” or β€œGive me 5 bullet points instead of a full paragraph.” That way, it’s less likely to get overwhelmed and tap out halfway through.

That’s it for this week!

Also, a quick note β€” the editor of The Automated (that’s me!) will be giving my first academic conference presentation this week (27 May 2025, 13:00–14:15 Paris time) at the AMICAL Conference in Paris.

The talk is called "Teaching in the Age of AI," and I’ll be sharing practical ways educators can use AI tools (like GPT) in the classroom β€” especially for entrepreneurship and case-based teaching.

Would love to hear your thoughts β€” or just see you there!

πŸ€– OpenAI’s Latest Upgrade

OpenAI just hooked up their AI agent, Operator, with a serious brain upgrade.

You know Operator, right? That AI that can surf the web and mess with software all on its own β€” no babysitting required?

Well, it used to run on a version of GPT-4o, but now OpenAI switched things up and plugged in the newer, smarter o3 model.

This o3 is basically the overachiever of the AI family β€” killing it especially in math and reasoning. So yeah, it’s a pretty big step up.

But here’s the twist: this upgrade is mostly for the Operator model you see directly from OpenAI.

The API version β€” the one other apps use to tap into Operator β€” is still rocking GPT-4o for now. So, the upgrade is rolling out carefully, which honestly makes sense when you’re dealing with powerful AI that’s supposed to act responsibly.

Now, it’s not just about smarts. OpenAI’s pumped some extra safety into this new Operator model. According to their latest reports, it is now:

  • Trained to politely decline shady requests or dodgy commands.

  • Way better at dodging wild prompt injections and sneaky hacks that try to trick AI into doing things it shouldn’t.

  • Better at protecting sensitive info.

  • And even though the upgraded operator model, dubbed o3 Operator inherited some coding skills, it can’t just open a coding terminal and start hacking away. It’s more like a responsible assistant than a rogue coder.

So, to sum it all up: OpenAI just gave Operator a brain glow-up that makes it sharper, safer, and more reliable β€” without letting it go full rogue.

It’s like getting the latest smartphone upgrade, but this phone can actually handle your work and keep itself out of trouble. Pretty neat, right?

Honestly, we kinda saw it coming β€”there’s a heated -up race in AI land to build these super-smart agents that can handle complex tasks all on their own.

Google’s got their own versions, Anthropic is in the game, and OpenAI just wants to make sure their Operator stays ahead of the pack.

πŸ€– ChatGPT Prompt Of The Day: Give Your Bio a Bold, Polished Makeover

Your bio is often your first impressionβ€”whether it’s on LinkedIn, Twitter, your website, or even in a pitch email. A strong bio should sound confident, clear, and just the right amount of personable. Think: expert-level without the ego.

This prompt helps you distill what you do and who you help into a sharp bio that builds trust and attracts the right peopleβ€”fast.

Here are some tips to execute this prompt effectively:

  1. Be clear on your audience: Be specific about who you help and what you help them achieve. The more focused, the better the bio.

  2. Define the transformation: What outcome or goal do you help them achieve? Think β€œbook more clients,” β€œscale without burnout,” β€œfeel confident on video,” etc.

  3. Infuse personality: Choose a tone that matches your brandβ€”whether friendly, bold, witty, or straight-up pro.

  4. Keep it tight: Stick to short punchy sentences. Use strong verbs. Avoid fluff.

  5. Run it through ChatGPT a few times: Ask for 3-5 variations, so you can pick the one that feels most you.

Here’s an example:

Rewrite my professional bio to sound confident, approachable, and expert-level. I help [target audience] achieve [goal].

Optional Additions:

β€œMy tone is [friendly/quirky/direct].”

β€œSome words I’d like to include are [e.g. transformation, strategy, wellness].”

β€œAvoid sounding [too salesy, robotic, vague].”

β€œI want to use this on [platform] and my tone is [tone].”
