Meta AI finally launches in Europe but... without its best features?
Plus, Referral Radar is back—redesigned and better than ever!

Hello and welcome to the Automated, your AI tour guide.
Meta AI has finally touched down in Europe—but thanks to the EU’s strict privacy laws, this version is a stripped-down "lite" edition, missing some of its best and most fun features.
So, what made the cut? And more importantly, what got left behind?
Here’s what we have for you today:

💃 Meta AI Finally Launches in Europe… Without Its Best Features!

After months of regulatory drama, Meta AI is finally rolling out in Europe—but don’t get too excited just yet.
Unlike its U.S. counterpart, which can generate images and create fancy AI selfies, the EU edition is, well… kind of underwhelming. And it’s all thanks to the EU’s strict privacy laws.
But here’s the upside: Meta AI is now available in 27 EU countries, plus extras like Iceland, Norway, Serbia, and Switzerland. And for the UK? It’s making its way to WhatsApp.
Before you start panicking about whether Meta has been secretly training its AI on your embarrassing Facebook posts—don’t.
Meta promises that the EU version wasn’t trained on local user data. Not because it’s suddenly big on privacy, though—it simply had no choice.
And here’s why:
Meta has been locked in a messy tug-of-war with EU regulators over data privacy. Unlike in the U.S., where it freely hoards user content for AI training, Meta hit a regulatory wall in Europe.
At first, it tried to sneak in an “opt-out” system, where AI training would be the default unless users actively stopped it.
But that plan? yeah it crashed and burned when the Irish Data Protection Commission (DPC) stepped in and hit the brakes.
And then there’s the UK.
While technically outside the EU, its watchdogs had similar concerns. But after Meta tweaked its opt-out system just enough to satisfy regulators, it got the green light.
Even so, the regulatory framework remained just as strict.
So, here’s the official line: Since Meta AI in the EU wasn’t trained on European user data, the company insists there’s no need for consent forms or privacy alarms.
Convenient, right?
So… What Can This AI Actually Do?
Right now, Meta AI in Europe is basically just a glorified chatbot with a slick UI, baked into WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger, and Facebook.
To use it, just tap the little blue circle or type @MetaAI in a chat (whether in DMs or group chats) and fire away with your questions.

It also speaks six languages (English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, German, and Italian) and works in both private and group chats. But the rollout is staggered—WhatsApp gets it first, then Messenger and Instagram will follow.
Oh and here’s a catch: since Meta swears this AI isn’t personalized (translation: it doesn’t secretly know your preferences), it’s really just a fancier more intuitive search tool rather than a deeply customized assistant.
But don’t be too dismayed—Meta promises to eventually bring the EU version up to speed with the U.S. one. Then again, given Europe’s obsession with privacy laws, that might take a while.
So, if you were hoping for AI-generated selfies or artsy images, you’ll have to wait—or, you know, move to the U.S.
Bottom Line?
Meta AI has officially entered the EU—but in the most boring way possible.
Honestly, it feels more like a guest than a full resident. And with regulators still circling, its future in the EU is anything but certain.
So, for now, enjoy your new, slightly watered-down AI assistant. At least it won’t be reading your DMs… for now.

🔎 Anthropic’s AI-powered chatbot, Claude, can now search the web.
After resisting for ages, Anthropic has finally caved and given its AI chatbot the power to scour the internet for real-time answers. But is it any good?
For now, only U.S. users on a paid Claude plan get to test this shiny new feature, with free-tier users and other countries joining later.
If you’re lucky enough to have access, you’ll find the option to toggle on web search in your profile settings on the Claude web app.
Once activated, Claude will start pulling information from the internet, offering direct citations so you can verify sources yourself.
But before you get too excited—there’s a catch.
Web search only works with Claude 3.7 Sonnet, the latest and greatest version of Anthropic’s model.
And early testers have noticed some hiccups.
Web search doesn’t always trigger, even for current events, and when it does, it can pull sources from X (formerly Twitter) and news outlets like NPR and Reuters.
So why now? Well, competition is heating up.
Rival AI chatbots like ChatGPT, Gemini, and Le Chat have had web search for a while, and Anthropic didn’t want to be left behind.
Until now, their stance was that Claude was "designed to be self-contained." But let’s be real—no one wants an outdated AI when everyone else is getting fresh info straight from the web.
Of course, this move isn’t without risk.
AI models are notorious for hallucinations and miscitations, and studies show even the best chatbots get things wrong over 60% of the time.
Just last week, The Guardian exposed how ChatGPT’s search tool was generating misleading summaries—so Claude might not be immune to the same issues.
The bottom line is web search is a much-needed upgrade for Claude, but it remains to be seen how well it handles the chaos of the internet.
Are we getting a reliable AI researcher or just another chatbot that confidently makes stuff up?
