 ❌ Meta's AI Plans Hit Roadblock in Brazil!

Brazil's data protection agency (ANPD) has put the brakes on Meta's plan to use Brazilians' Instagram and Facebook posts to train AI models.

Their reason? They're concerned about the "imminent risk of serious and irreparable damage" to users' rights.

And the fact that Meta's data protection measures for its Brazilian and European users have some major differences.

• Meta planned to use posts from Brazilian children and teenagers to train its AI models, while in Europe, nobody under 18 would have their posts used.

• The steps for European users to block Meta from using their personal information are easier than for Brazilian users, who have to go through eight steps!

We wonder why they decided to apply different rules, but it's ironic they’ve gotten the same outcome, right?

Anyway, if Meta doesn't comply with Brazil's data protection regulator, it would face a daily fine of R$50,000 (£6,935).

And as you can imagine, Meta is not happy with this!

They’ve expressed disappointment, claiming that their approach complied with local privacy laws and that this decision would only delay bringing AI's benefits to people in Brazil.
