💼 Mustafa Suleyman Joins Microsoft!

Mustafa Suleyman (co-founder of Google DeepMind) has been appointed CEO of Microsoft AI, a new organization that will handle Microsoft’s consumer-facing AI products, such as Copilot, Bing, and Edge.

This makes him part of the company’s senior leadership team, which reports directly to CEO Satya Nadella.

If you're not familiar with Suleyman, he's a big deal in the world of AI:

He co-founded DeepMind in 2010 before Google acquired it, and he remained there until 2022 when he left to co-found the startup Inflection AI. But before then, there was some controversy in 2019 which led to his being placed on leave!

All of that is now water under the bridge as he’s ready to take the AI world by storm at Microsoft!

Microsoft is also hiring some of Inflection AI’s employees, including co-founder Karén Simonyan, who will serve as the consumer AI group's chief scientist.

🚫 NewsGuard unveils AI anti-misinformation tools!

Newsguard (a fact-checking outlet) is rolling out a new line of services to combat AI-generated false information, such as fake pictures, videos, and audio, that could affect this year's global elections.

I know, I know, you might be thinking this isn't the first attempt to tackle AI-generated misinformation, but NewsGuard is taking it to the next level!

First, they plan to increase their election misinformation "fingerprinting" to continuously collect updated feeds of fake news. This will help their AI models detect, recognize, and avoid sharing any false information that comes their way. How smart is that!

Then, they’ll use their knowledge of malicious actors' tactics and motivations to ensure that AI text, image, video, and audio generators are not prompted to bypass guardrails.

To top it all off, Newsguard is even incorporating basic information, such as election dates and times from official government websites, into its models.

I'm sure you're wondering if all of this will make any difference, right?

Well, Newsguard's years of experience in fact-checking and partnerships with tech giants like Microsoft (which has licensed NewsGuard's products to train Bing) give us reason to believe that it might just do the trick.

Plus, they created a 2024 Elections Misinformation Tracking Center earlier this year, which tracks myths and falsehoods spreading online.

So, just maybe, they know what they’re doing!
