Google's ramping up its language learning game with a new feature called “Speaking Practice”.

Well, actually, it's not really new, but it’s gotten a shiny upgrade!

It was first rolled out in October 2023, and it only provided feedback on spoken sentences; now, it's full-on conversations.

You can now speak into your phone and practice whatever language you’re learning with a conversational AI bot.

But hold your horses, there’s a catch:

Both the feedback and conversation practice features are only available in English for Search Labs users in Argentina, Colombia, India, Mexico, Venezuela, and Indonesia.

However, it might pop up on your Android device when you translate to or from English with Google, so keep an eye out.

No official word from Google on whether the feature will be expanded to more countries or languages, but could it be the next big thing in language learning?

😲 EyeEm Introduces a Controversial AI Training Clause!

Ever heard of EyeEm? The Berlin-based photo-sharing platform that many thought would rival Instagram (or at least “Europe’s Instagram”), but it ended up selling to Freepik after facing bankruptcy.

They've just made a move that has the internet buzzing with outrage!

EyeEm emailed its users to inform them that it had updated its Terms & Conditions to give the company the right to use users' content to train their AI models.

They've also given users just 30 days to opt out by deleting all their content from EyeEm.

This seems like a straightforward solution, right? But no, you’re Wrong —Opting out or deleting your content from the site is a much more complicated process.

  • Users must submit a request for deletion to EyeEm’s support team, including the Content ID numbers for the photos they want to delete.

  • The deletion process could take up to 180 days, but users only have 30 days to opt-out, and there’s no option to bulk delete.

Oh, and if you’re thinking, why not just delete the account altogether? Think again!

The updated Terms state that if you delete your account, you’re saying bye-bye to your right to any payouts for your work.

Crafty move, isn't it? Now might be a good time to give Pixelfed, EyeEm’s rival, a try.

In fact, they just announced that they would never use your images to help train AI models, but can Pixelfed be trusted?
