OpenAI scraps o3!

Plus, Adobe’s AI video generator is here

Hello and welcome to the Automated, your AI tour guide.

If you’ve been eagerly waiting for OpenAI’s hyped-up o3 reasoning model, well… brace yourself—because OpenAI just changed the plan on us.

Instead of launching o3 as a standalone model, they’re taking a more streamlined approach, which integrates a lot of their technologies—including what would have been o3—into one unified system.

Here’s what we have for you today:

🤯 OpenAI Ditches o3 In Favour of GPT-5!

In a shocking twist that no one saw coming (well, except OpenAI’s execs), the company has slammed the brakes on o3—(its next big, overly hyped AI model)—before it even had a chance to launch.

Instead, CEO Sam Altman says they’re going all-in on GPT-5, which will absorb o3’s tech and roll straight into ChatGPT and OpenAI’s API.

Why the switch?

Turns out, OpenAI realized its AI lineup was getting a little too.... complicated and downright confusing.

Altman even admitted they “hate the model picker” as much as users do and want AI to “just work.”

So rather than making everyone juggle multiple models and guess which one to use, they’re rolling everything into one big, powerful system that does it all.

But first, they’re dropping GPT-4.5 (a.k.a. Orion) in the next couple of weeks. Exciting, right?

Well, there’s a slight problem—reports suggest Orion isn’t a major leap over GPT-4o and has been struggling with performance issues.

Basically, it’s an upgrade—but not exactly a revolution. And according to Altman, GPT-4.5 will be OpenAI’s last "non-chain-of-thought" model.

That’s because the real game-changer—Reasoning models—will now reign supreme.

Yep, OpenAI is going all-in on AI that can fact-check itself, making it more reliable—even if it takes a little longer to respond.

This shift makes sense—especially with DeepSeek closing in fast.

Its R1 model is already rivaling OpenAI’s tech, and even Altman admitted it’s shrinking the gap—forcing OpenAI to speed up releases to stay ahead.

So, What Does This Mean for You?

Here’s where it gets interesting: GPT-5 will come with different intelligence levels.

  • Free-tier users get unlimited chat at a “standard intelligence setting” (whatever that means).

  • ChatGPT Plus and Pro subscribers unlock progressively smarter versions—basically turning it into a game where you pay to level up your AI’s brainpower.

Long story short?

OpenAI is ditching AI model confusion, streamlining its lineup, fast-tracking GPT-5, and racing to stay ahead of some serious competition.

 🎬 Adobe’s AI Video Generator Is Here—And It’s Taking on OpenAI’s Sora.

Move over, Sora—Adobe is stepping up its AI video game!

The company’s text- and image-to-video generator, Generate Video, is now available for everyone to try in public beta.

After months of early access testing, Adobe is rolling out this powerful AI tool on the redesigned Firefly web app, bringing fresh updates to video generation, image translation, and even new AI subscription plans.

Generate Video offers two main features: Text-to-Video and Image-to-Video.

With just a few words, users can bring scenes to life, while an optional reference image can fine-tune the results to match a desired style.

Adobe has packed in options for tweaking camera angles, motion, and shot composition, giving creators more control over their AI-generated clips.

Compared to the early version teased last year, the tool now produces smoother, higher-quality 1080p footage at 24 frames per second, up from 720p.

However, videos are capped at five seconds—a far cry from the 20-second clips OpenAI’s Sora can generate.

Adobe says it's working on both a faster, lower-res “ideation model” and a premium 4K version, so longer, sharper videos could be on the horizon.

The Firefly web app itself is getting a major refresh, with a sleek new UI and tighter integration with Creative Cloud apps like Photoshop, Premiere Pro, and Express.

Adobe is positioning Generate Video as “production-ready,” reassuring creators that, unlike some AI tools trained on questionable data, Firefly’s model is built on licensed and public domain content—meaning no copyright headaches.

But Adobe isn’t the only player in the AI video space.

OpenAI’s Sora has already impressed with its ultra-detailed clips, Google is refining its Veo model, and companies like ByteDance and Pika Labs are pushing out their own video AI tools.

While Adobe’s competitive edge lies in Firefly’s commercial safety, it will need to keep innovating to match the growing quality and capabilities of its rivals.

Alongside Generate Video, two additional tools are launching in public beta—though these won’t be free.

Scene to Image lets users create custom reference images with built-in 3D and sketching tools, likely an evolution of Adobe’s “Project Scenic” experiment.

The Translate Audio and Video tool, as the name suggests, enables AI-powered dubbing in over 20 languages while preserving the speaker’s original voice.

For those ready to dive deeper, Adobe is rolling out new Firefly subscription plans.

The Standard plan, priced at $9.99 per month, includes 2,000 credits—enough for 20 AI-generated five-second clips at 1080p.

For those who want more, the Pro plan at $29.99 offers 7,000 credits and up to 70 video generations.

Both plans come with unlimited access to Firefly’s imaging and vector tools, making them a tempting deal for AI-powered content creation.

With Generate Video now in public beta, Adobe is making AI-powered filmmaking more accessible than ever.

Whether you're a content creator, marketer, or just curious about the future of video, this is your chance to explore the latest in AI-generated media.
