🗣️ Scarlett Johansson’s Voice in ChatGPT?

OpenAI unveiled its new AI voice assistant for ChatGPT, Sky, last week, and the internet went wild!

Everyone (even a Saturday Night Live joke) was quick to compare the voice to that of Scarlett Johansson in the movie “Her.”

And, of course, Johansson is not happy about all this!

She has hired legal counsel and has sent letters to OpenAI demanding that the company disclose how it developed an AI personal assistant voice that sounds so similar to hers.

But here’s the juicy part:

Johansson released a statement in which she details that last September, Sam Altman wanted to hire her to voice the current ChatGPT 4.0 system, but she turned it down.

She even adds that Altman contacted her agent just two days before the company first demoed the ChatGPT voice, asking her to reconsider.

oh-oh, this doesn’t look good for OpenAI, especially since Altman posted the word "Her" on X after the new ChatGPT version was announced.😬

But the company insists in its blog post that the voice wasn’t meant to mimic Johansson’s and was recorded by another actor they hired who used their normal speaking voice.

However, out of respect, they have paused using Sky’s voice and are “in conversations” with Johansson’s representatives over their concerns.

Hopefully, this doesn't end in one gigantic lawsuit!🤞

💻 Microsoft Launches Copilot+ PCs!

Microsoft declared 2024 the year of the AI PC, and they’re definitely sticking to it!

They just unveiled a new lineup of Windows machines called Copilot+ PCs, and trust me, they are a must-have!

These machines deliver up to 15 hours of web browsing and 20 hours of video battery life, and they come with a minimum of 16GB of RAM paired with SSD storage. (See the full spec here).

But most importantly, they also have dedicated chips called NPUs to power AI experiences like “Recall”!

Recall is a feature that can “remember” apps and content that you viewed on your PC weeks or even months ago.

There are more AI experiences to explore, like:

  • The “Super Resolution feature” that automatically upscales old photos.

  • A “Cocreator feature” that not only allows you to generate images but also lets them guide the AI to modify or restyle the drawings.

  • A “Live Captions feature,” which will translate any audio passing through your PC into one of the 40 supported languages of your choosing, and so much more — check them all out here!

Copilot+ PCs start at $999, and some are available for preorder today — not too much for a cutting-edge AI machine, right, or is it?
