👺 AI Researcher Scrapes Bluesky Data!

If you’re a Bluesky user, here’s a new discovery: your content might not be as “yours” as you think.

Why? It turns out that about a million carefully crafted posts have been snagged for AI research.

You're shocked, right? Well, so are we.

But to be clear, Bluesky itself isn’t training AI on your content —unlike some platforms we could name (but won’t).

However, there’s a wild west out there when it comes to third parties.

404 Media reported that a researcher (Daniel van Strien, a machine learning librarian) from Hugging Face yanked about a million public posts from Bluesky via its Firehose API for machine learning experiments to a public repository.

Yes, you read that right: a million posts!

The uproar that erupted after was loud enough to have that dataset taken down, but the lesson here is crystal clear: once something is public, it’s open for the taking.

And no, Bluesky isn’t just sitting back and watching the chaos unfold.

They’re working on tools to help users express their consent preferences to outside parties.

However, they’ve stated they have no way to enforce these preferences once you’re outside their system.

In other words, it’s up to third-party players to “play nice.” But do we truly trust them? Your guess is as good as ours.

So, what’s the takeaway here?

Think twice before hitting that post button because once your thoughts are out there, they’re there for all to see—potentially even becoming part of someone else’s AI experiment.

🧑‍💼 Trump Eyes an ‘AI Czar’ for the White House!

We could soon witness a new era of AI regulation in the White House!

According to Axios, President-elect Donald Trump may introduce an "AI czar" to oversee federal regulation and governmental use of AI.

The best part? This role wouldn’t require Senate approval, enabling swift action toward the administration’s goals.

It might also be combined with the "crypto czar" role, which the White House is reportedly considering.

These new roles would complement the agency chief AI officers established under President Joe Biden’s AI executive order.

However, Trump might opt to revamp this framework by eliminating those officers in favor of a more top-down governance.

So stay tuned—big shifts are brewing, and we’ll keep you updated as everything unfolds!

No names have been officially put forward for consideration as of now.

But Tesla CEO Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy, the co-leaders of the extra-governmental organization DOGE, are expected to influence the selection of the AI czar.

If Trump moves forward, the appointment could completely transform how technology and government coexist in 2025.
