Welcome Automaters, 👋

Okay, real talk: last week's merch drop went better than we expected.

You showed up, you screenshotted, you DM'd us about it, and now we've gone and added new products with new quotes to keep things interesting.

So if you’ve been sleeping on this, consider this your official (and slightly dramatic) wake-up call.

So What’s New? Well we've got:

  • Premium Cups: For the coffee that fuels your AI deep dives.

  • Sturdy Totes: For carrying the weight of the future (and your laptop).

  • Accessory zipper pouches

  • Everyday Carry Pieces: To remind everyone else in the room that you’re playing a different game.

All printed with the exact words that apparently belong in your sales calls, your pitch decks, and your negotiation rooms. (Your words, not ours. Well, technically ours. You know what we mean.)

Now, don't let the new additions fool you; we haven't changed the rules of the game. They're still limited runs. Still no reprints. Still no waitlist. What's left is what's left.

Also: Hit reply and tell us which quote you're grabbing. And fair warning: the totes and the cups are not going to last long.

Here's what we have for you today

😨 Americans Are Done With AI Data Centers, and OpenAI Just Confirmed a Breach

A brand-new Gallup poll just dropped, and the numbers are absolutely wild. Out of 1000 adults, a full 71% of Americans say they do not want an AI data center built anywhere near their home; and nearly half of them (48 percent) are strongly against it.

For some context on just how dramatic that is: this is a more intense level of opposition than nuclear power plants receive. Yes, you read that right; data centers are currently more unpopular than facilities that literally split atoms.

So, what is everyone so upset about?

  • 50% pointed to resource concerns like water use, power grid strain, deforestation and energy costs.

  • 22% flagged quality-of-life issues like property values, health, traffic and of course how much space these facilities take up.

  • 16% raised concerns about noise, air, water, light  and heat pollution.

  • And a surprisingly relatable 14%? They just personally dislike or distrust AI. Fair.

  • 12% cited concerns about AI supplanting human workers.

The backlash has become so serious that 69 jurisdictions across the U.S. have already enacted moratoriums or outright restrictions. Let’s not even talk about the protests from the people. In all, the AI buildout is running face-first into a very angry neighborhood association, and the neighborhood is winning.

But hey. AI buildouts are not the only ones facing difficulties.

Earlier this week, hackers pulled off a "supply chain" attack by hijacking the TanStack open-source library, a popular tool used by developers to build web apps.

Think of it as poisoning the water supply instead of going house to house.

The hackers published 84 malicious versions of the software in a tiny six-minute window. While a researcher caught it within 20 minutes, OpenAI unfortunately got caught in the crossfire.

  • The Damage Report: OpenAI confirmed that two employees had their devices compromised. The hackers managed to exfiltrate "limited credential material" from internal source code repositories.

  • The Good News: OpenAI is insisting that no user data was accessed, no production systems were compromised, and no intellectual property was stolen.

  • The Catch for You: As a precaution, the company is rotating its digital certificates. If you’re a macOS user, you’ll need to update your ChatGPT app before June 12, 2026; otherwise, it might stop working or refuse to receive future updates.
