Anthropic is opening its doors to younger users with its latest policy change —in certain circumstances, at least.

🤯 Anthropic Opens its AI Tech to Minors!

Anthropic has tweaked its policies to allow teens and even preteens to use third-party apps powered by its AI systems.

But with some important safety measures in place!

These include age verification systems, content moderation and filtering, and educational resources on “safe and responsible” AI use for minors — all of which must be included by developers creating AI-powered apps for minors.

Anthropic also promises to monitor compliance with child safety laws, such as the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).

They'll even order developers to “clearly state” that they’re in compliance and suspend or terminate the accounts of those who repeatedly violate the compliance requirement.

But why the change in policy, you ask?

kids are increasingly turning to AI for school help and personal issues. A recent poll shows that 29% of kids turn to ChatGPT for dealing with anxiety or mental health issues, 22% for friendship issues, and 16% for family troubles.

Plus, rivals like OpenAI and Google are also jumping into the kid-friendly AI game!

This year, OpenAI formed a new team to study child safety and partnered with Common Sense Media to collaborate on kid-friendly AI guidelines.

And Google made its chatbot Bard, since rebranded to Gemini, available to teens in English in selected regions.

So, it’s not really surprising that Anthropic has joined the bandwagon!

However, while these tech companies may have good intentions, we can’t close our eyes to the negative aspects.

Surveys have shown that 53% of kids use generative AI to create false information or images used to upset someone, including pornographic deepfakes.

But hopefully, the rules put in place will help keep kids on the right track.🤞

🤩 OpenAI's Latest AI Creation!

OpenAI reportedly has a new “multimodal AI digital assistant” that can talk to you and recognize objects faster and more accurately than its existing models.

It can also help customer service agents pick up your tone, e.g., when you’re being sarcastic, and even help students with math or translate real-world signs.

And wait, there's more!

Word on the street is that OpenAI is also working on a new built-in ChatGPT ability to make actual phone calls. Developer Ananay Arora spotted some code that hints at it.

And if you’re thinking that all of this could be GPT-5, the model that’s supposed to be “materially better” than GPT-4, then you’re wrong!

CEO Sam Altman recently confirmed that what’s coming is not GPT-5 just yet, nor is it a new AI-powered search engine.
