Here is the wild part: as recently as March 2025, AI-referred shoppers converted 38% worse than regular human visitors. Fast-forward exactly 12 months to March 2026, and AI traffic now converts 42% better. That is a full flip in just one year.

Retailers who were skeptical? They are quietly updating their growth forecasts as we speak. The stats get even juicier. 

  • Shoppers who land on a retail site via an AI source spend 48% longer time on the site

  • They browse 13% more pages

  • And generate 37% higher revenue per visit compared to non-AI traffic.

So why are AI referrals so much more valuable? It’s simple:
