šŸ’ƒ Apple Intelligence is Now Available!

Apple is finally stepping into the AI spotlight with the launch of Apple Intelligence, which is rolling out on iPhones, iPads, and Macs.

It comes with useful features like generative writing tools, notification summaries, and a photo cleanup tool to remove those pesky distractions from your pictures.

But donā€™t expect a full-blown takeover just yet; this is merely the opening act!

While Apple Intelligence has been playing around in developer and public beta for a few months, this marks its official debut in public OS releases.

But here's the thing:

Most of these features are still labeled as ā€œbeta,ā€ meaning they're a bit like teenagers: full of potential but still figuring things out.

And yes, youā€™ll also need to get on a waitlist to join the action.

Whatā€™s more, the updated Siri, flaunting that glowing border weā€™ve all been waiting for, is also finally here.

And guess what else?

You can now enter text by double-tapping the bottom of the screen, which is great if typing feels more comfortable than talking.

But hey, donā€™t get too excited; the big upgrades, like Siri finally learning to take actions within apps, arenā€™t expected until 2025.

Guess sheā€™s taking her sweet time to level up on that front!

In the meantime, Apple is offering an ā€œAI starter kitā€ that is as useful as it is familiar.

The Writing Tools can help you summarize notes, adjust your message tone to be friendlier or more professional (depending on the situation), and transform your rambling paragraphs into tidy lists or tables.

Plus, AI-generated summaries will appear in your notifications and emails, and a new focus mode will filter out the noise.

Thereā€™s also more on the horizon!

Apple has promised that December will bring even more features, including integrating ChatGPT into Siri, Writing tools that'll let you describe the changes you want Appleā€™s AI to make, and Appleā€™s AI camera feature ā€” Visual Intelligence, which can identify objects around you.

Now, we know the AI future weā€™ve been promised might still be a long way off, but at least it's a start, right?

If you're eager to jump on board, you can download iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18.1, or macOS Sequoia 15.1 to get a taste of these new features.

But fair warning: youā€™ll need the latest Apple hardware to play, as this feature loves to hang out with M-series chips and the newest devices.

Apple Intelligence will kick off its rollout in US English, with plans to expand to Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, South Africa, and the UK by December.

More languages are also coming in April, so mark your calendars!šŸ—“ļø

šŸ†• Meta Unveils NotebookLlama!

Metaā€™s diving into the ā€œAI podcastā€ scene with NotebookLlama, a new spin on Googleā€™s NotebookLM generate-a-podcast featureā€”but with Metaā€™s own quirky twists.

Using its Llama models, NotebookLlama takes dry text files such as PDFs, news articles, and blog posts and turns them into chatty, podcast-style discussions.

Picture it: AI voices bringing your favorite article to life with dramatic pauses, a few interruptions, and maybe even a dash of sassiness thrown in. Sounds fun, right?

Hereā€™s how it works:

NotebookLlama takes your uploaded file, whips up a transcript, sprinkles in a dash of drama (think scripted pauses and well-timed reactions), and runs it all through open text-to-speech models to ā€œbring it to life.ā€

But hereā€™s the catch:

The voices still sound pretty roboticā€”like Siriā€™s cousins trying their best to nail human banter but getting hilariously out of sync. (Listen to it here)

Even Metaā€™s researchers are honest about its limitations.

On the projectā€™s GitHub page, they hint that stronger models might eventually iron out the kinks.

Theyā€™re also toying with the idea of adding some personality by letting two AI ā€œhostsā€ debate each topic instead of just sticking to a script.

But thereā€™s a bigger challenge: NotebookLlama and, frankly, all AI-generated podcasts still struggle with the infamous ā€œhallucinationā€ problem.

Yep, you might hear some, letā€™s say, creative additions in your podcast that were never in the original text.

Long story short? If youā€™re looking for pure, undiluted truthā€¦well, maybe keep your fact-checking hat on.
