Hello and welcome to the Automated, your AI tour guide.
One of the biggest issues with AI is that most tech companies don’t tell us where they got their training data from, but that’s about to change with this new bill!
Here’s what we have for you today:

⚖️ AI Copyright Disclosure Bill is Here!
A new bill called the “Generative AI Copyright Disclosure Bill” wants to finally force tech companies to tell us what they use to train their AI models.
Here’s how:
Under the bill, anyone making an AI training dataset must submit reports on its contents to the Copyrights Register "not later than 30 days" before the AI model using the dataset is released to the public.
The reports must include a detailed summary of the copyrighted material in the dataset, the URL of the dataset (if it’s publicly available), and any changes made to the dataset.
However, the bill won't affect AI platforms that are already in use unless changes are made to their training datasets after it becomes law.
If this bill passes, it may put an end to the many copyright lawsuits between artists and tech companies.
In fact, many entertainment groups, such as the Writers Guild of America (WGA), the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), the Directors Guild of America (DGA), etc., have already supported the bill.
Exciting stuff, right? You can read the full details here!
🤯 AI takes over grading in Texas!
The Texas Education Agency (TEA) is swapping out most of its human graders for an "automated scoring engine" that could save it $15–20 million per year.
But not everyone's sold on the idea — Some educators worry about accuracy after a trial run in December 2023 gave more zero scores for constructed responses.
However, TEA assures that humans will double-check a quarter of AI-graded results, especially for answers that include the use of slang or non-English responses that may confuse the AI system.
And here’s the most interesting part:
TEA’s website says that the new scoring engine is a “closed system” that’s very different from AI in that “ It won’t “learn” from one response to the next, but always defer to its original programming set up by the state.”
It’s probably a good idea to say it's not AI because how else will you explain using AI when millions of teachers are criticizing students online for using the same technology for their homework and essays?
We can't wait to see how this all plays out, but in the meantime, you can find more info here!
