💣 ChatGPT’s Surprising Role in the Trump Hotel Explosion.

Las Vegas kicked off 2025 with a literal bang—an explosion outside the Trump Hotel—and now, the investigation has taken an unexpected turn into AI territory.

The suspect, Matthew Livelsberger, an active-duty U.S. Army soldier apparently decided to enlist ChatGPT as his brainstorming buddy.

Yes, even AI is getting dragged into crimes now.

Police revealed that Livelsberger asked ChatGPT some pretty eyebrow-raising questions, like how to make and detonate explosives, and where to legally buy guns, fireworks, and explosive materials.

And ChatGPT’s response? Something along the lines of, “We’re not Google, but here’s some generic info, plus a reminder not to blow anything up."

On top of that, investigators found a “possible manifesto” on his phone, some emails to a podcaster, and a meticulous log of surveillance that apparently only existed in his imagination.

As for the explosion, it seems a gunshot may have ignited fuel vapors and fireworks stored in his truck.

Thankfully, it wasn’t a high-speed detonation, so the damage was relatively contained.

Investigators are still considering other possibilities, like an electrical malfunction, but the ChatGPT connection is what’s stealing the spotlight.

OpenAI has spoken up, emphasizing that their chatbot is designed to reject harmful instructions and that it didn’t provide anything groundbreaking—just information anyone could dig up with a Google search.

Still, the fact that ChatGPT’s queries have now become part of a crime investigation feels like a plot twist straight out of a tech-thriller.

This case is a flashing neon sign screaming, “AI safety? Time to have that chat!”
