💃 Fine-tune GPT-4o For Your Business!
OpenAI is shaking things up with its latest announcement!
Their most advanced AI model, GPT-4o, can now be fine-tuned by developers for specific business needs.
This means developers using OpenAI’s API can now use their own datasets to enhance GPT-4o's knowledge base.
Not just that, they can also control how the model responds to specific questions. A small business, for example, could fine-tune the model to always respond to queries with bullet points or suggest products.
Isn't that amazing? We certainly think so, but there’s more!
Even the smaller and cheaper GPT-4o mini can be fine-tuned, making advanced AI accessible to businesses of all sizes.
And don’t worry; OpenAI has already put this new fine-tuning ability to the test.
They ran early tests with Cosine, a Y Combinator-backed startup developing Genie, an AI-powered software engineering assistant, and the results were pretty impressive.
After fine-tuning GPT-4o on "examples of real software engineers at work," the model began responding to queries in a way that’s very similar to human engineers.
OpenAI even claims that Genie outperformed other AI-assisted coding solutions after training the model with the problem-solving logic of human engineers.
But of course, this fine-tuning ability comes with a cost.
It will cost you $25 for every million tokens used to fine-tune GPT-4o and $3 for every million tokens used to fine-tune GPT-4o mini.
And for context, OpenAI says that 1 million tokens is roughly equivalent to 2,500 pages in a standard-size book.
You'll also need to pay an additional $3.75 and $15 per million tokens, respectively, for every time the model processes an input and generates an output.
Is it worth it? If you think it is and are ready to jump in, here’s how to get started!
🗣️ OpenAI's Position on California’s Controversial AI Bill!
There's a heated debate in California about who should regulate it, and guess who’s chiming in?
OpenAI's chief strategy officer, Jason Kwon!
In an open letter, Kwon says the federal government should call the shots, not individual states.
Kwon's concern with California's new AI safety bill, SB 1047, is that it could slow down progress and even drive companies out of the state.
He thinks a patchwork of state laws will stifle innovation, while a federally-driven approach will let the US lead the charge in developing global AI standards.
But Senator Scott Wiener, the bill's author, doesn’t quite agree.
He says it just asks AI labs to do what they've already promised: test their models for any catastrophic safety risks.
And get this - these requirements apply to any AI company doing business in California, regardless of where they're headquartered. In other words, there’s no escaping this bill!
So, what's in this bill that's got everyone talking?
For starters, it establishes standards for AI development, like safety testing and whistleblower protections.
It also gives California's Attorney General the power to take action if AI models cause harm, and it calls for establishing a “public cloud computer cluster” called CalCompute (catchy name, right?).
But here's something to note:
Kwon and OpenAI aren't exactly criticizing any specific part of the bill. They just think it should be handled at the federal level.
This bill has already passed out of committee with some tweaks, like replacing criminal penalties with civil ones and narrowing the Attorney General's enforcement powers.
Currently, it's waiting for its final vote before heading to Governor Gavin Newsom's desk.
So, what do you think? Should AI regulations be handled by the feds or individual states? Or should OpenAI even have any business in suggesting who should regulate AI?
You should read the full report. It's got a lot in there!
