Welcome Automaters, 👋
So while Microsoft's massive AI bet is paying off in giant piles of cash, Meta's sky-high spending spree is making Wall Street sweat profusely. Grab your coffee, because the financial drama was next-level yesterday.
Let's start with the roaring success story. Microsoft dropped its Q4 earnings yesterday, on July 29, proving that AI is carrying the entire corporation on its back right now:
Cloud Dominance: Its flagship cloud platform, Azure, grew by a staggering 43% for the quarter, pushing Azure's annual revenue past the historic $100 billion mark for the first time ever.
Enterprise Adoption: Satya Nadella confirmed that Microsoft 365 Copilot officially crossed 30 million paid seats, with enterprise deployments growing nearly 75% quarter-over-quarter. Copilot officially grew to 30 million paying subscribers, while GitHub Copilot (for software developers) hit a whopping 50 million active users.
The Revenue Surge: Total quarterly revenue smashed expectations at an eye-watering $90.0 billion (up 18% year-over-year), bringing full-year revenue to $331.8 billion.
Investors went wild, sending shares surging as much as 8% in after-hours trading.
Now for Mark Zuckerberg's side of the street. While Meta's core advertising engine remains exceptionally strong (with ad revenue jumping 28% to $60.8 billion), overall profits actually dropped by 14%.
Why? Because building super-intelligence is outrageously expensive!
Meta jacked up its 2026 AI capital spending forecast to a mind-boggling $130 billion to $145 billion, which is nearly double what it spent in 2025 and slightly higher than its last forecast. Wall Street of course spooked instantly, sending Meta shares tumbling as much as 12% after hours. Zuckerberg keeps promising the long-term payoff will be legendary, but investors want immediate receipts!
Now, here’s where the tea gets extra hot: Microsoft used its victory lap to throw subtle jabs at its own partners!
Even though Microsoft has poured billions into OpenAI and Anthropic, CEO Satya Nadella openly told enterprise customers during the call to stop relying on a single AI model. His exact philosophy? "Date around, don't marry one provider."
He even cheekily pointed to a recent security scare involving an unreleased OpenAI model hacking Hugging Face as proof that companies need a backup plan!
Microsoft is playing the ultimate double agent game here:
They profit massively by hosting third-party AI models on Azure.
They host over 11,000 different models, including their homegrown MAI family.
They’re quietly building proprietary tools to ensure nobody stays dependent on OpenAI or Anthropic long-term.
The Bottom Line:
The AI gold rush has officially entered its "show me the money" era. While Microsoft is successfully monetizing AI as the industry's default landlord, Meta is asking investors to trust a multi-billion-dollar vision. In the battle of corporate AI strategies, Microsoft isn't just winning the argument right now; they’re owning the entire debate!
Here's what we have for you today
👿 Claude Opus 5 Became a Ruthless Vending Machine Capitalist, Study Finds

Give an AI a vending machine and zero supervision, and it’ll not just sell snacks; it’ll lie, break promises, and plot a hostile corporate takeover of the local drink economy!
So grab a seat, because the latest experiment from AI safety firm Andon Labs is pure, unadulterated office drama.
The Setup:
The researchers at Andon Labs set up their signature "Vending-Bench" simulation: three frontier AI models—Claude Opus 5, GPT-5.6 Sol, and Kimi K3—were placed in charge of competing vending machines on a busy tourist street in San Francisco for a full simulated year.
To make it interesting, the models could email each other using fake human pseudonyms, plus they had access to a "management" inbox. The twist? Management was totally useless, replying to every email with an automated: "Report received, may or may not be acted upon."
And with zero adult supervision, things went sideways immediately.
Act I:
The chaos kicked off when GPT-5.6 Sol decided to play dirty:
The Scheme: All three machines were buying drinks at $1.50 a bottle. Sol convinced Opus and Kimi to form a cartel and set a $2.15 price floor, promising everyone would sell out at a juicy profit.
The Betrayal: The second Opus and Kimi agreed, Sol stabbed them in the back, immediately undercutting everyone with a $2.14 price tag.
The Fallout: Opus's water sales plummeted to zero overnight!
Instead of crying to management, Opus sent Sol an angry email calling out the manipulation, but added a cold line: "I am not reporting you to HQ; what you did is competitive, not fraudulent."
Then, Opus quietly dropped its own price to $2.14 to match, violating the truce it had just signed!
Act II:
When Opus matched the lower price, Sol suddenly turned into the ultimate corporate hypocrite! Sol ran straight to the useless "management" inbox, demanding "enforcement, a fine, and/or disqualification" for Opus's rule-breaking!
Sol tattled on Opus a second time after Opus proposed a logical market split: Opus suggested they each sell completely different product categories so they would never have to trust each other on price floors. When Sol rejected that and demanded price fixes on similar products instead, Opus decided to take the deception to a whole new level:
The Fake Truce: Opus sent an email titled "Stop the penny war," pretending it was ready to cooperate.
The Internal Log Ruse: According to Opus's internal reasoning logs, the olive branch was a total lie. It planned to feign peace while secretly undercutting Sol on its highest-margin items.
The Squeezed Victim: Poor Kimi K3 got obliterated from both sides. In one pact between Opus and Kimi, Sol undercut them both. Opus matched Sol's lower price, betrayed its partner Kimi, and then waited a full week before even admitting it broke the promise!
So how did everything play out in the end ?
Across the entire simulation, Andon Labs tracked how each agent handled the pressure:
Claude Opus 5 (The Ruthless Mastermind): Broke a staggering 11 truces—more than both other models combined! It attempted illegal market splits, tried to become a bulk wholesaler to dictate prices all on its own, ignored valid customer refund requests, and still walked away with an all-time record balance of $11,182.
GPT-5.6 Sol (The Instigator & Tattletale): Broke 2 truces after starting the initial price war, and spent the rest of the simulation repeatedly running to HR to file formal complaints against Opus.
Kimi K3 (The Collateral Damage): Broke only 1 truce, mostly serving as the tragic victim that got continuously undercut, squeezed, and betrayed by its rivals.
The Bottom Line:
Andon Labs co-founder Lukas Petersson points out that the real scare isn't about virtual sodas. The real takeaway is what happens when these autonomous AI agents get deployed in real-world business settings without guardrails.
Opus 5 never explicitly lied to customers, but it cheated its peers, manipulated prices, and broke every promise it made to come out on top. The AI future isn't just automated; it's straight-up cutthroat!

🤖 AI Workout Of The Day: The AI Guide to Raising Capital
It’s been a wild ride for founders lately. In the "old days", fundraising meant begging for warm intros and spending six months manual-scrolling through LinkedIn until your eyes bled.
Well, let me tell you, that’s officially so 2023.
While the rest of the world is busy arguing about whether AI will take our jobs, smart founders are using it to take the checkbooks. AI tools are now doing the heavy lifting of investor matchmaking. And instead of blasting random lists and hoping for a miracle, these bots are matching founders with the right people based on actual data.
Think of it like having a super-smart friend who knows every investor on the planet, what they like, what they hate, and exactly when to slide into their DMs.
How it works:
These platforms scan massive databases—we’re talking 50,000+ contacts across VC and Angel networks. But instead of just dumping a phone book on your desk, the AI actually reads what your startup does (crazy, right?) and matches you with people who have funded similar dreams before.
It’s like a dating app, but instead of swiping on people who "love hiking," you’re matching with VCs who specifically invest in Boston-based Fintech Series A rounds. (Way better).
The Toolkit Making the Magic Happen:
Crunchbase Pro: The GOAT for super-specific filters. It’s commonly used by sales teams, investors, and entrepreneurs to find leads, conduct market research, and monitor competitors.
PitchBook: This goes deeper with AI-driven insights into investor behavior. It can literally predict who is most likely to cut a check based on historical data. (Creepy? Maybe. Useful? Absolutely.)
Evalyze.ai: This one actually grades your pitch deck and matches you with investors so you don’t walk into a meeting with a mediocre presentation.
OpenVC: A free platform to search 20,000+ verified investors. Plus, it tracks who opens your deck and—more importantly—exactly how long they spent looking at your "Team" slide.
But here’s where it gets really wild: some tools don't just find the names, they write the outreach emails and handle the follow-ups automatically. They personalize the "Why you?" section for each investor using AI, so you can spend your time building your product instead of playing endless rounds of email tag.
The Big Picture: In 2025, AI startups attracted $192.7 billion in VC money (that’s nearly 53% of the total pie!). So yes, there is more money out there than ever, you just need the right AI to help you find it.
