🔄 Elon Musk's xAI  Hit "Undo" on Its Entire Coding Division — Again

It’s a "back to the drawing board" kind of week for the xAI crew.

Elon Musk took to X on Thursday to drop a truth bomb that honestly didn't startle anyone. According to Musk, xAI wasn't built right the first time, so they are rebuilding the whole thing from the foundations up. And coming from the guy who launched the company, that is a massive self-burn.

So exactly what is Musk referring to?

The drama isn't just about one project, it’s a full-on house cleaning.

First, there’s Macrohard. Despite the name (which Musk insists is just a "funny reference to Microsoft"), this project is incredibly ambitious: it’s an AI agent designed to do basically anything a white-collar worker can do on a computer. But like xAI’s struggling tools, especially the coding and image generation ones, it’s reportedly hitting some major speed bumps.

What’s going wrong?

  1. The Brain Drain: Since January 2026, about 8 out of the 11 original co-founders have either left or are imminently departing. That is like a band where more than half the members rage-quit before the first album even drops.

  2. The Competition Gap: Co-founders Zihang Dai and Guodong Zhang reportedly exited after Musk complained that their AI coding tools weren't effectively competing with Claude Code (Anthropic) or Codex (OpenAI).

  3. The Rescue Mission: To save the ship, xAI just poached Andrew Milich and Jason Ginsberg from Cursor. And if you don’t know, Cursor is like the kid in class who finishes the exam first and gets a 100%. They reportedly hit $100M in revenue faster than almost any dev tool in history, and xAI is hoping that magic rubs off.

Why should YOU care?

This isn't just spicy corporate gossip; it’s a window into how far the AI race has moved, and what AI companies deems important and profitable. As Techcrunch puts it, the pressure is on because xAI is now part of SpaceX, and with a public offering of SpaceX shares on the horizon, this cash-burning AI division has to prove Grok and its agents are actually ready for prime time.

The big takeaway? AI agents and coding assistants aren't just cool gimmicks anymore, they’re becoming the core of how work gets done. And when a major player like xAI has to hit "Restart," it shows just how high the stakes are in 2026.

🧱 Around The AI Block

🤖 AI Workout Of The Day: Turning Grandma's Blurry Photos Into Viral Content

Remember that box of dusty family photos sitting in your closet? The ones with the mysterious stains, faded colors, and scratches that make the Great-grands look like a ghost?

Well, AI just made restoring them stupidly easy. And the best part? these "dead" photos are currently the biggest trend on TikTok.

AI photo restoration absolutely exploded over the last year. We are talking over 100 million downloads for apps like Remini and a 441% growth in the AI photo editor market. This isn't just niche tech anymore; it is officially mainstream. Between the "Hug Your Younger Self" trend and the Studio Ghibli-style family portraits, people are literally animating their great-grandparents' wedding photos and watching them blink for the first time in 80 years. It is absolutely wild.

How It Actually Works

Apps like MyHeritage, VanceAI, and Remini aren't just "cleaning" photos. They are using advanced models trained on millions of historical images to literally reconstruct what is missing. They bring:

  • Detail Recovery: The AI "hallucinates" missing skin textures and facial features to make them crisp.

  • Smart Colorization: It doesn't just slap a filter on; it adds realistic skin tones and environmental colors based on the lighting.

  • Deep Nostalgia: This is the viral feature that animates faces. It makes historical figures smile, blink and turn their heads naturally. It is a little "Uncanny Valley," but people are obsessed.

The 2026 Tool Tier List

Most people can get 90% of the way there with free apps, but if you want to go full Hollywood, here is the hierarchy:

  • The Free/Budget Play: MyHeritage and Remini are the kings of the app store. You get a few free enhancements a day, which is plenty for a one-off  "throwback Thursday" post.

  • The Pro Powerhouse: Pixelbin  is the industry standard for upscaling. If you have a massive archive to fix, this is the way to go.

  • The Creative Suite: Adobe’s Neural Filters ($22/mo) give you the most control. If you want to manually fix a specific pixel, Photoshop is still your best friend.

How to Go Viral (Step-by-Step)

  1. Don't just take a photo of the photo. Use Google PhotoScan to kill the glare and scan at 600+ DPI.

  2. Drop it into an AI tool. If the photo is black and white, scan it in "color mode" anyway. The AI uses the yellowing of the paper to understand the age and depth better.

  3. Use the "Deep Nostalgia" or "Animate" feature to bring the person to life.

  4. On TikTok, use the "Then vs. Now templates,",  "AI age morph," or "Hug trend". The emotional resonance is what triggers the algorithm.

PS: We've got the tutorials you need to kill it:
