⚖️ FTC Demands Answers from Tech Giants on AI Investments!
If you’ve ever wondered what goes on behind those multibillion-dollar deals between big tech companies and AI companies - you know, like Microsoft's multibillion-dollar investment in OpenAI or Amazon's $4 billion investment into Anthropic.
You’re not alone.
The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is curious too, and they're asking some questions!
They’ve sent orders to Alphabet, Amazon, Anthropic, Microsoft, and OpenAI, asking them to explain the nitty-gritty details of their investment agreements, what they talk about at meetings, and how the partnerships influence product releases.
That’s not asking for too much, right?
But that’s not all the FTC is looking for; they also want to know
How these investments impact the market share, competition, and potential for sales growth in the sector
If there is competition for resources to develop AI products; and
Any information each company may have given to other government entities.
The companies have 45 days to respond to the Commission, and while no wrongdoing is alleged at this stage, who knows what they'll find.

💃 OpenAI is Giving us More With Less Cost!
Guess what?
OpenAI's API access just got a major price drop! We're talking about a whopping 50% off for input and 25% off for output prices! Wow, right?
But that's not the end of it!
OpenAI has also released a slicker and more improved version of GPT-3.5 Turbo (aka version 0125). They claim it is laced with "various improvements." But apparently not enough that’s worth mentioning.
But here’s the best part:
GPT-4 Turbo also got an upgrade, but this time, they were kind enough to tell us what exactly we are getting.
It completes tasks like code generation more thoroughly than the previous preview model and is intended to reduce cases of “laziness” where the model doesn’t complete a task.
Although it’s still in preview mode, here’s something else: GPT-4 Turbo with vision (that is, GPT-4 V) will launch to the public in the coming months!
