Hello and welcome to the Automated, your AI tour guide.

Google’s Project Astra Delayed!

Google’s ambitious AI venture, Project Astra, won’t hit the market until 2025.

Project Astra, unveiled at Google’s I/O conference in May, is Goggle’s effort to build AI apps and “agents” that can provide a real-time, multimodal understanding of our surroundings.

It includes a range of technologies, like smartphone apps that are aware of the world around them and answer related questions and AI assistants that take on tasks on your behalf.

For example, just by the things in view of a smartphone’s camera, a Project Astra prototype could identify the neighborhood you’re in or even pinpoint the name of a broken bicycle part.

Isn’t that so amazing? But sadly, we’re gonna have to hang tight.

Initially, there was buzz about Google launching a “consumer-focused agent” this December to assist with everyday tasks like booking flights or making purchases.

Now, it seems that won’t happen, at least not through Astra.

This delay reflects the complexities of creating AI agents that can seamlessly handle everyday tasks.

Just look at Anthropic, which recently introduced one of the first large generative AI models capable of controlling apps and web browsers on a PC but still struggles with many basic tasks.

We guess Googe is taking the time to get it right.🤷‍♀️

🤩 OpenAI Builds its First Chip!

OpenAI, the masterminds behind ChatGPT, is reportedly taking chip matters into its own hands—literally.

Faced with the skyrocketing demand for the computing power that fuels its AI, OpenAI has teamed up with Broadcom and TSMC to build its first in-house AI chips by 2026!

And for a little extra firepower, they’re adding AMD to back up Nvidia, their usual chip MVP.

Once upon a time, OpenAI had a big, bold vision to build its own network of chip-making factories (a.k.a. “foundries”).

But after some serious number crunching, they put that plan on hold—it turns out that kind of ambition comes with jaw-dropping costs and timelines.

Instead, they’re now focused on designing custom chips, using a mix of their own tech and industry partnerships.

Essentially, they’re following in the footsteps of tech giants like Amazon and Google, which combine homegrown tech with strategic partnerships to secure a steady chip supply.

And don’t think this is just about OpenAI going full DIY.

By combining Broadcom, AMD, and TSMC with their own tech, they’re hoping to cut costs and avoid chip shortages in the future.

And guess what?

Wall Street’s already hyped—Broadcom’s stock jumped 4.5%, and AMD saw a 3.7% boost after the news broke.

Overall, this combo of custom chips and big-name partnerships could give OpenAI a huge edge, especially as demand for these AI chips keeps growing.

For now, they’re balancing ambition with a bit of caution, but if OpenAI pulls this off, it could reshape the entire AI hardware game as we know it.
