🛑 OpenAI Shuts Down AI Classifier!

OpenAI has shut down its AI classifier, a tool designed to distinguish between AI-written and human-written text.
The reason behind this move was the tool's significantly low accuracy rate.
According to an evaluation conducted, the classifier was able to correctly identify AI-written text only 26% of the time, and even worse, it mistakenly flagged human-written content as AI-generated in 9% of cases.
Interestingly, OpenAI had released the classifier tool with a list of limitations, making one question the decision to release it in the first place.
The link to the classifier is no longer available, but OpenAI has expressed its commitment to incorporating feedback and is currently researching more effective provenance techniques for text.
OpenAI took this step just after they joined several other companies in a White House-led “voluntary commitment” to develop AI ethically and transparently.
Could this be a coincidence? Your guess is as good as ours. 🤷
For more details, you can find OpenAI's announcement regarding the shutdown of their AI classifier on their official website.
🤖 Google Co-Founder Returns to Scale AI Efforts
Sergey Grin, one of Goggle’s Co-founders, is back in the office!
Both Co-founders (Sergey Grin & Larry Page) stepped down from active day-to-day-management of the company sometime in 2019.
But Sergey has been spotted at the office at least 3-4 days a week.
Why this sudden return:
He’s conducting research on a cutting-edge AI project called "Gemini", which is said to surpass all of Google's previous AI systems. Furthermore, Sergey is playing a crucial role in recruiting top researchers to join the team working on "Gemini".
WSJ reporter Miles Kruppa provided a detailed explanation of the Gemini project and Sergey’s role in it.
