Grok now available for free users?

Elon Musk’s AI chatbot Grok is finally expanding beyond premium users on X and is now testing free access to selected regions.

🤷‍♀️ Grok Now Available for Free Users?

Elon Musk’s AI chatbot, Grok, might soon be available to free users.

Grok was developed by Musk’s other company, xAI, but until now, only premium-paying customers have had access.

But over the weekend, whispers of a free version began circulating.

Several app researchers and users posted about a free version of Grok rolling out to people in certain regions.

And good news: it’s been confirmed that X is testing access to Grok for free users in New Zealand.

However, one researcher who goes by Swak on X points out a few limitations.

  • 0 queries per two hours with the Grok-2 model

  • 20 queries per two hours with the Grok-2 mini model, and

  • Three image analysis questions per day.

Additionally, to use Grok for free, you’ll need to have an account that’s at least 7 days old and must link a phone number.

So, why introduce a free version now?

By opening its doors to free users, xAI is likely aiming to grow its user base and get faster feedback on its products.

This strategy will help them compete more effectively against rivals like ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini.

And that’s no surprise, seeing as just last month, The Wall Street Journal reported that xAI is in talks to raise several billion dollars at a valuation of $40 billion.

So, yeah, xAI is definitely making some bold moves to beat the competition.💪
