So… Apple just built its own ChatGPT-style chatbot… but don’t get too excited — you’ll probably never get to use it.

According to Bloomberg, Apple whipped up an internal app, code-named Veritas, to test the new and improved Siri it teased way back at WWDC 2024.

So, what does Veritas actually do?
Basically, it gives Apple employees a playground to see how Siri handles all the shiny new tricks —including:

  • Searching through your emails and messages.

  • Doing things inside apps (yep, even editing photos, sending texts, etc.)

Basically, it’s Apple’s private version of ChatGPT… except instead of writing emails or poems, it’s stress-testing Siri’s ability to actually be useful.

But here’s the kicker: Veritas isn’t just about bug hunting. Apple’s also using it to figure out if the chatbot format itself is worth giving to everyday users.

In other words: Do people even want Siri to chat with them like an AI buddy?

If not, if it flops internally, don’t expect a public version anytime soon.

Behind the curtain, Siri’s big revamp is powered by a system called Linwood, which blends Apple’s own large language models with — get this — at least one competitor’s.

Early reports pointed to OpenAI or Anthropic, but Bloomberg now says Apple’s circling a deal with Google.

So yeah, Apple may be late to the AI party… but with Veritas and Linwood, Siri 2.0 looks more real than vaporware this time.

The only question left: will it actually be good — or just “Apple good”?
