😮 Microsoft's New Role at OpenAI

Sam Altman is officially back as OpenAI’s CEO, and they've got a new board with a surprising addition!

The new board includes Bret Taylor, former co-CEO of Salesforce, Adam D’Angelo, who served on the previous board, and Larry Summers, an economist and political veteran.

Microsoft, a major investor in OpenAI, also gets a seat at the table as a non-voting observer!

What this means is that the tech giant will have more visibility into the OpenAI’s inner workings but not have an official vote in board business.

Microsoft is, however yet to disclose who from the company would fill its observer seat.

Upon his return, Altman expressed (in a published letter) immense excitement about the future of OpenAI and gratitude for the team's resilience during uncertain times.

His focus now is on advancing OpenAI's research, and interestingly, he harbors "zero ill will" and is keen on a continued collaboration with Ilya Sutskever, OpenAI's co-founder and chief scientist, who initially supported Altman's removal but changed his mind.

The letter is packed with lots of info; you can check it out here.
