💪 Nvidia Tops Apple’s Market Cap!

Nvidia has just claimed the title of the world’s most valuable company, surpassing Apple!

Their secret? Two little letters: AI, AI… and, yes, more AI.

With a jaw-dropping 850% surge since late 2022, Nvidia’s market cap hit an impressive $3.43 trillion on Tuesday, sliding past Apple’s $3.38 trillion.

And if you’re wondering, this isn’t their first dance. Nvidia briefly dethroned Apple back in June, but that victory barely lasted 24 hours.

In response, Apple has started exploring AI with its own generative tool, Apple Intelligence.

However, while Apple is still finding its footing in the AI space, Nvidia is already powering some of the world’s most powerful AI models.

But hey, the competition’s heating up, and Nvidia’s time at the top might be short-lived.

Why, you ask?

For starters, OpenAI, the brains behind ChatGPT, has teamed up with Broadcom and TSMC to build custom AI chips (per Reuters reports).

Additionally, major players like Microsoft, Meta, and Google’s Alphabet are racing to build their own AI powerhouses, each with an eye on Nvidia’s throne.

So, Nvidia may be sitting pretty at the top for now, but this is the tech world where you blink, and everything changes.

For now, the AI crown undeniably belongs to Nvidia…but the question is: for how long?

😤 Perplexity's Controversial Offer to NYT Amid Workers’ Strike!

Perplexity CEO Aravind Srinivas has offered to provide services for the New York Times (NYT) as its tech workers go on strike.

This, of course, has caused a backlash.😡

For those not in the know, the NYT Tech Guild kicked off its strike on Monday, frustrated that its demands weren't met.

They have been asking for a 2.5% annual wage increase and affirmation of a two-day-per-week in-office expectation, among other things.

However, the guild wrote on X, “The company has decided that our members aren’t worth enough to agree to a fair contract and stop committing unfair labor practices."

So, a strike was their next course of action.

The situation took a twist when AG Sulzberger, the NYT’s publisher, criticized the timing of the strike, which began just two days before the U.S. presidential election.

He highlighted that it was troubling for the Tech Guild to disrupt what he called a public service during such a crucial moment for the nation.

Amid this turmoil, Srinivas made an offer to lend a helping hand.

However, his gesture was met with swift backlash on X, where many labeled him a “scab”—a derogatory term for those willing to perform the jobs of striking workers.

Srinivas has clarified that his offer wasn’t to replace NYT’s staff with AI but to support them technically on a high-traffic day.

But if you think about it, what services other than AI tools could Perplexity offer that would not amount to replacing these workers?🤔

Some might even find it odd that Perplexity was rushing to NYT’s aid in the first place.

Especially considering that the Times previously sent them a cease-and-desist letter in October regarding the startup’s scraping of its articles.
