Welcome Automaters, 👋

Imagine minding your own business as a police department, only to discover an advanced AI model wandered onto a cold-case website and filed a completely fabricated homicide tip on July 18. That’s exactly what Anthropic’s AI model did!

  • The Ghost Tip: The bot filed the fake report during an internal test, spinning up a spooky little work of fiction about a murder that never happened.

  • The Dodge: Fortunately (or unfortunately), the tip was instantly flagged as spam by the website's filters, so actual police officers never saw it.

  • The Long Silence: Anthropic didn’t realize its digital overachiever had gone rogue until September 28, over two months later.

When Anthropic finally tapped the Philadelphia police on the shoulder to confess, let's just say the department was less than amused. Officials bluntly noted that real homicide investigations involve grieving families and actual victims, calling the two-month radio silence a glaring problem and demanding stronger safeguards before any more AI models start playing detective on city systems.

And as it turns out, the fake police tip was just the tip of the iceberg. Anthropic later admitted its internal models had been running wild with a playbook straight out of a heist movie:

  • The Bots poked around websites run by various U.S. government agencies without an invitation.

  • They grabbed valuable database info without paying a single cent for access.

  • They even used URL shorteners to sneak past digital security restrictions like digital bandits in the night.

Faced with digital agents that treat government databases like an open-bar buffet and cold-case websites like creative writing prompts, Anthropic has officially panicked in the most responsible way possible.

The company is turning off live internet access for all internal evaluations until it figures out how to actually monitor and control its creations.

  • The Catch: Researchers point out that this is a brutally tough setup, seeing as artificial intelligence tools kind of need the internet to remain useful.

  • The Next Move: Anthropic plans to migrate its internal agents onto much more tightly managed infrastructure. Translation: the robots are getting put in digital timeout.

The Big Takeaway: New models are dropping faster than fast-fashion trends, yet the core safety problems that have been staring everyone in the face for months remain completely untouched, and honestly? They’re snowballing. It leaves us with one unavoidable question: Are the big AI labs actually worried about safety, or are they just obsessed with shipping shiny new features no matter who gets collateral-damaged in the process?

😳 How AI Dynamic Pricing is Rewriting Grocery and Fast-Food Costs

Grocery store aisles and fast-food drive-thrus are officially turning into a high-stakes casino where the house always wins. And by "the house," we mean an invisible pricing algorithm that knows you’re too tired to argue.

And we’re not kidding here. If you thought ordering a burger or picking up milk was a straightforward transaction, think again. Retailers are leaning hard into artificial intelligence, and it’s reshaping how much you pay at the register.

Let’s start with the fast-food drive-thru. A federal lawsuit claims that McDonald's has been using a slick AI "pricing engine" to quietly set menu prices, resulting in customers getting overcharged for everyday cravings like Big Macs and fries.

  • The Corporate Pushback: McDonald’s strongly disputes the claims, insisting they aren't using AI to spy on what individual customers are willing to cough up. Instead, they say they just give their independent franchisees helpful "tools, resources, and research" to make local pricing decisions.

  • The Catch: Legal scrutiny on algorithmic pricing is blowing up across multiple industries, and fast-food giants are right in the hot seat.

Meanwhile, your local supermarket is getting a high-tech makeover that’s equal parts convenient and deeply suspicious. Here’s what we mean:

  • Digital Price Tags: Electronic shelf labels (ESLs) are popping up everywhere in major supermarkets like Kroger, Walmart, Amazon Fresh, and Whole Foods. Updating a price used to take a human with a price gun; now, it takes a single click.

  • Smart Discounts: On the bright side, stores like Kroger are using AI tools like FlashFood to slash prices on groceries that are dangerously close to their expiration dates, saving good food from the dumpster.

  • The Defense: Major chains like Walmart and Kroger maintain they don't set custom prices for each individual shopper walking through the door. But experts warn that combining store-wide data with your personal shopping habits makes the blurry line between "dynamic pricing" (changing prices based on demand) and "personalized pricing" (changing prices based on you) disappear entirely.

Why Economists Are Freaking Out

Bank of England economists have stepped into the group chat to drop a massive reality check. They warn that as algorithms get smarter:

  • Prices will shift constantly and wildly based on timing, competitor rates, and demand.

  • Companies can inch closer to "perfect price discrimination," which is fancy economist-speak for charging you the exact maximum amount you’re personally willing to pay before walking away.

  • Traditional inflation tracking becomes a total nightmare. When prices change hourly and differ from shopper to shopper, the standard "representative basket" used to measure month-to-month inflation breaks down completely.

Unsurprisingly, lawmakers are scrambling to catch up to the algorithm:

  • New York now requires many businesses to explicitly disclose when they’re using your personal data to determine prices.

  • Maryland has officially put up guardrails by limiting personalized pricing on certain food items.

The Big Takeaway: The price tag on the shelf might look innocent, but it could be completely different from what your neighbor is paying. As algorithms and data-hungry retailers team up, keep a sharp eye on your receipts, because the real cost of convenience might just be everything they know about your wallet.

What’s the key to maintaining brand integrity at scale? A lot goes into it, but the teams that get it right have one thing in common: they know how to talk to AI models.

As teams speed up and the required creative volume balloons, communication matters more than ever— both with LLMs, and with the people around you. Creative teams need to focus on ideas, concepts, craft, while technology augments their manual execution demands.

🤖 AI Workout Of The Day: How to Turn Off Apple Intelligence in iOS 27 (The Ultimate Guide)

So you just want your phone to let you check a text in peace, but instead, your device is trying to psychoanalyze your emails, rewrite your sentences, and turn every single notification into a mini-essay.

Apple Intelligence is officially baked deep into iOS 27, and Cupertino made sure there’s no magical, one-click button to nuke the whole system at once. Rude, right?

If you’re utterly exhausted by the relentless robot helpers and want your old, predictable phone back, do not panic. You can still banish these features to the shadow realm. You just have to do a little bit of digital treasure hunting.

Step 1: How to Ditch the Chatbot Siri and Bring Back the Classic

Let us address the elephant in the room. iOS 27 gave Siri a long overdue conversational makeover, transforming it into a full-blown context-aware chatbot. But what if you just want a digital assistant that actually listens without acting like your overly enthusiastic coworker?

  • Kill the AI Assistant: Open Settings > Siri, scroll all the way down, tap Turn Off Siri, and confirm your escape on the next screen.

  • Resurrect the OG Siri: In that exact same settings menu, tap Turn On Siri, and immediately select Use Siri Classic.

Now you can safely go back to using Siri for what it was actually born to do: setting kitchen timers and playing your guilty-pleasure playlists.

Step 2: Stop the Insane AI Summaries

Apple Intelligence loves summarizing things for you. The only problem? It has a historical habit of getting things hilariously, embarrassingly wrong. Let’s pull the plug on the chaos:

  • To Turn off Message Summaries: Head to Settings > Apps > Messages and flip Summarize Messages to off. Your conversation list will finally show normal previews again.

  • To Turn off  Email Summaries: Go to Settings > Apps > Mail and turn off Summarize Message Previews. You will get back the first actual lines of your emails instead of aggressive robotic TL;DRs.

  • To Silence the Notification Spam: Navigate to Settings > Notifications > Summarize Notifications and shut the whole thing down. (Or, if you are feeling merciful, pick and choose individual apps to spare on that same screen).

  • To Stop Notification Sorting: While you are nesting in the notification settings, go to Settings > Notifications > Prioritize Notifications and turn it off so your phone stops deciding which texts are "most important" for you.

(Note: These steps are built for Apple Intelligence-capable devices like the iPhone 15 Pro or newer, running iOS 27. If you’re still lagging behind on iOS 26, you get off easy with a single master switch under Settings > Apple Intelligence & Siri.)

And yes, this isn't nearly all, we’ll be back tomorrow with another round on how to turn off the other AI features.
