🤯 OpenAI Co-Founder Leaves for Anthropic!

John Schulman, one of OpenAI's co-founders, has left to join rival startup Anthropic!

And before you even think it, he’s not leaving because of the recent controversies surrounding OpenAI’s approach to and treatment of AI safety research.

At least that's what he's saying.

In a post on X, Schulman said his decision is driven by a desire to delve deeper into AI alignment and to do more hands-on technical work.

OpenAI, on its part, has expressed gratitude for his contributions as a founding team member at OpenAI.

And CEO Sam Altman also had kind words, saying, “We will miss you tremendously and make you proud of this place.”

So, it’s safe to say that there’s like there’s no bad blood here.🤷‍♀️

But it is odd that quite a few key executives have left OpenAI recently:

Peter Deng, a product manager who joined OpenAI last year after leading products at Meta, Uber, and Airtable, also left the company some time ago.

And who can forget AI safety researcher Jan Leike, who made a dramatic exit from OpenAI some months back to join Anthropic, and now Schulman is joining him there.

Odd, isn't it, or are we just being melodramatic?

Anyway, with Schulman leaving, there are only three of OpenAI’s 11 original founders remaining — CEO Sam Altman, Greg Brockman, and Wojciech Zaremba.

And get this: Greg Brockman is taking an extended leave, too!

The question on our minds, and perhaps yours, is: What's going on at OpenAI? why is everyone heading for the exits?

✍️ The Impressive Feature on the Writing Tools from Apple!

In case you missed it, Apple just rolled out its iOS 18.1 developer beta, giving us a taste of its new Apple Intelligence features!

And let me tell you, it's packed with some seriously mind-blowing new capabilities!

One of the coolest and always-available is its Writing Tools, which uses AI to help you reformat or rewrite texts.

Sounds super helpful, right?

But here’s the thing – it also came with some serious built-in filters for swear words!

When you try to rewrite something with swear words or sensitive topics like drugs, murder, or killing, the tool gets a bit cautious.

It reacts and warns about potential quality issues, and in some cases, it even says it wasn't designed to handle that type of content. Take a look here.

Another interesting point is that, while it's a writing tool, it doesn't generate entirely new content from scratch – it's mainly oriented towards refining existing text.

Why is that? Well, Apple wants to make sure they’re not accidentally creating problematic content.

Honestly, Apple is putting its heart into playing it safe to avoid any controversy.

It’s interesting, though, because Apple only recently stopped blocking swear words from autocorrect suggestions.

But then, maybe they’re just being extra careful this time around!

Overall, It’s a really cool and useful tool, but it’s going to be quite problematic for those who can’t get through a sentence without swear words.
