Welcome Automaters, 👋
Remember when scheduling AI tasks was a "paid users only" club? Well, the bouncer just let everyone in.
OpenAI has officially opened up its upgraded task scheduling tool to free ChatGPT accounts, no subscription required. That means anyone can now tell ChatGPT to do a job later instead of right now, and actually keep track of it.
Here's the backstory. Back in June, OpenAI added a dedicated hub inside ChatGPT's sidebar specifically for scheduled prompts, making it way easier to track, tweak, and manage requests you'd set up in advance. The catch? It was locked to Plus, Pro, Business, and Enterprise subscribers only.
As of this week, that wall is gone. Free users get the same scheduling menu, full stop.
But wait, there's more (there's always more). OpenAI also added the ability to share scheduled tasks with other people. So if you build a genuinely clever automation, like a custom news digest or a travel alert setup, you can now pass it along instead of hoarding it.
And for the paying crowd, there's an extra treat: you can now trigger ChatGPT prompts automatically based on real-time activity across Gmail, Slack, or GitHub. Here’s what that means:
In Gmail: ChatGPT can react to incoming emails instantly.
In Slack: It can launch workflows right as messages drop.
In GitHub: It can automate responses the second a new pull request lands.
OpenAI's own suggested use cases include travel alerts, streaming release notifications, and daily news roundups, which, fittingly, is basically what this newsletter already does for you (just saying).
Our Take: This is OpenAI quietly transforming ChatGPT from a chatbot you constantly have to babysit into a full-blown personal assistant. Free scheduling is the gateway drug. But those live Gmail, Slack, and GitHub triggers for paid users? That’s the real flex.

🤖 AI Hype vs. Reality Check: Entry Jobs Are Vanishing, But "Agentic AI" Is Still Mostly Vibes

Two new reports just walked into the AI conversation and dropped absolute truth bombs: the robots are coming for your jobs, just not the ones the tech hype machine promised, and definitely not on the fantasy timeline you've been sold over espresso.
The tl;dr? Entry-level job seekers in the UK are already taking the hit. Meanwhile, most corporate boardrooms still can't get their fancy "AI agents" to do anything more complex than act like a gloriously over-promoted chatbot with delusions of grandeur.
Let's break it down.
The Bad News: If you're trying to break into the workforce right now, grab a seat. A fresh Survation survey of over 1,000 businesses for Lancaster University's Work Foundation revealed that 36% of UK employers axed entry-level positions over the past year.
The breakdown gets even wilder when you look at company size:
For Small businesses: 24% cut entry-level roles (with AI and automation listed as a main driver).
Medium firms: 48% scaled back early-career hiring.
Large corporations: A massive 46% to 60% trimmed entry-level headcount due to automation.
It's a full-on drought out there folks. Official data shows total UK job vacancies plummeted to 707,000 for the three months leading up to July—the lowest numbers seen since early 2021. Even worse? Job site Adzuna revealed that roles specifically seeking graduates dropped by an eye-watering 49% compared to last year.
Right now, over 1 million young people aged 16 to 24 are classified as NEET (not in education, employment, or training), marking the highest spike since 2013. A staggering 73% of employers admit it's vastly harder for young adults to secure work today than five years ago. To combat the crisis, the Confederation of British Industry is begging the government to scale back payroll tax rises and tone down planned employment laws in the upcoming October budget.
Work Foundation Director Ben Harrison put it bluntly: young candidates are battling brutal, unprecedented competition for a rapidly shrinking pool of starter roles.
Meanwhile, the "AI Agent Revolution"? Totally Stuck in Traffic
While entry-level roles quietly dissolve, those super-advanced "autonomous AI fleets" promised to run whole marketing departments by now are still mostly spinning their wheels.
According to Deloitte's latest research:
Only 15% of US companies have successfully scaled "agentic AI" (coordinated teams of autonomous digital workers).
The remaining 85% are completely trapped in endless, messy pilot-project limbo.
Turns out, the tech itself isn't the primary bottleneck. The real chaos lives inside human corporate infrastructure, and we’re talking: shattering legacy workflows, retraining stubborn management, and rebuilding decision-making processes that were never meant to hand control over to autonomous software.
So What's the Real Tea Here?
Connect the dots, and you get a dynamic that's far more nuanced than any generic doom-scrolling headlines suggest. And here's what we mean:
AI isn't a digital overlord sweeping in to oust entire management teams overnight.
It is quietly eating away at the baseline, slicing off entry-level training grounds while executives try to make the flashier tech actually work.
The career ladder is losing its bottom rungs long before the autonomous AI agents even graduate from the lab.
The market hype insists AI will either handle your operations by next Tuesday or prove to be a complete waste of capital. Reality, as usual, is messier: Real, structural disruption at the hiring boundary, tons of hype noise in the middle, and thousands of companies scrambling to figure out what to build next, or where they actually stand.

🤖 AI Workout Of The Day: Identify and Address Potential Red Flags in Your Job Application
In a hyper-competitive job market, getting hired isn't just about showing what you did, it’s about eliminating doubts and mastering Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS).
Most applications get rejected early for two reasons: failing automated keyword filters or raising unaddressed red flags (like employment gaps, frequent job-hopping, or sudden career pivots). Passing over these issues leaves recruiters to guess the worst. By identifying potential warning signs early, positioning them as valuable growth experiences, and aligning your cover letter with targeted job description keywords, you turn perceived vulnerabilities into strong selling points.
💡 Prompt To Try:
Act as a veteran executive recruiter, headhunter, and career strategist.
Your objective is to audit my cover letter and application materials against my target job description. You will identify ATS keyword gaps, highlight potential recruiter red flags, and rewrite key sections to make me the clear top candidate.
Here are my details:
* My Current Cover Letter: [PASTE YOUR COVER LETTER HERE]
* Target Job Description & Requirements: [PASTE JOB DESCRIPTION HERE]
* Known Background Gaps / Vulnerabilities (Optional): [e.g., 8-month employment gap in 2024, switching from marketing to software engineering, lacking 1 key required tool]
Please provide a complete Application Audit & Optimization Suite structured into the following 4 sections:
1. ATS KEYWORD MATCH & ALIGNMENT MATRIX: Construct a clear Markdown table comparing key skills and terms:
* Hard & Soft Keywords Found in Job Description
* Current Presence in My Cover Letter (Present / Missing)
* Natural Integration Suggestion: Exactly how and where to insert missing high-value keywords naturally without sounding like forced jargon.
2. RED FLAG IDENTIFICATION & MITIGATION STRATEGY
* Spot 2 to 3 potential recruiter concerns or friction points (e.g., skill gaps, unclear timeline transitions, over-qualification, or vague impact metrics).
* For each red flag, provide a "Reframe Strategy" that shifts the narrative from a vulnerability to a demonstration of adaptability, continuous learning, or unique perspective.
3. THE HIGH-IMPACT COVER LETTER REWRITE: Deliver a polished, upgraded version of my cover letter incorporating:
* A high-converting hook that grabs attention in the first 2 sentences.
* Seamless keyword placement matching the job posting requirements.
* Proactive, subtle framing that addresses potential background concerns before the recruiter raises them.
* Strong, quantifiable achievement metrics (e.g., using placeholders like [X% increase] if specific numbers weren't provided).
4. INTERVIEW PREP: ADDRESSING THE ELEPHANT IN THE ROOM
* Provide 2 specific behavioral interview question responses (using the STAR method: Situation, Task, Action, Result) to help me answer live questions about my background gaps or red flags during an interview.
TONE & EXECUTION GUIDELINES:
* Approach this with a sharp, strategic, and encouraging tone.
* Ensure the rewritten cover letter sounds natural, professional, and confident, completely avoiding robotic or over-templated phrasing.
* Use bold text for easy skimming of key changes and suggested keyword placements. Is this your AI Workout of the Week (WoW)? Cast your vote!
