🤔 OpenAI Weighs Advertising!
Exciting developments are brewing at OpenAI – According to the Financial Times, there's chatter about possibly introducing ads into ChatGPT!
While CFO Sarah Friar has assured that there are "no active plans" just yet, the recent hiring of Shivakumar Venkataraman, a former Google ad executive, is definitely raising eyebrows.
Could this hint at new directions for ChatGPT, and if so, what’s fueling this potential shift?
Operating advanced AI models comes with a hefty price tag, and relying solely on subscriptions may not be enough to keep pace with growth.
Yet, it seems there's a bit of a tug-of-war within the company.
Founder Sam Altman recently described ads as a “last resort” in a recent fireside chat at Harvard Business School, expressing some unease about merging advertising with AI.
Can you imagine the balancing act needed to keep AI helpful while navigating the ad landscape?
It must be quite something because, for now, OpenAI is sticking with subscriptions, but as the world of AI continues to evolve, so might its funding strategies.
So, our question is: If ads are eventually rolled out, could they revolutionize how businesses and professionals interact with AI tools like ChatGPT?
Or would they just feel intrusive, and you’d prefer to keep them separate?

🆒 AWS to Start Using Liquid Cooling for its AI Servers!
It’s AWS re: Invent 2024, aka the Super Bowl of Cloud Computing, and Amazon is bringing the heat—well, actually, they’re cooling it down.
They’re rolling out liquid cooling systems for their AI servers, including their new Trainium2 chips (still in preview) and Nvidia’s powerhouse accelerators (NVIDIA GB200 NVL72).
Why the shift to liquid cooling, you ask?
Well, that's because AI servers can get hot—like, really hot— and maintaining an optimal cooling system is crucial for keeping them efficient and ready to handle those massive AI workloads.
But AWS isn’t ditching air cooling altogether.
They’re blending air and liquid cooling in a “multimodal” setup, which sounds fancy but just means they’re ensuring both traditional servers and AI machines run smoothly without blowing the budget.
And that’s not all!
AWS is also moving towards a more simplified electrical and mechanical design for its servers and server racks, likely cutting out wasteful power conversions (like AC-DC-AC) and switching to a sleeker DC power and/or HVAC system.
The result? Their racks will be able to handle or support six times more power density in the next two years and another three times more in the future.
To top it off, AWS is getting its AI to do some heavy lifting
They’re deploying AI to map out the best rack placements to reduce the amount of unused or underutilized power.
Plus, they’re introducing a fancy new control system with built-in telemetry services for real-time diagnostics, so troubleshooting will be less “Where’s the problem?” and more “Boom, fixed!”
Even Nvidia’s Ian Buck is hyped, calling these upgrades a game-changer for energy-efficient, high-performance AI workloads.
In short, AWS is future-proofing its data centers to handle the AI revolution without turning into a sauna.
