Let’s be honest — most of us know Otter.ai as that quiet little app that sits in meetings, jotting down notes while we pretend to pay attention.
But Sam Liang, Otter’s CEO, wants to change that reputation — big time.
This week, Otter launched a brand-new suite of enterprise tools designed to turn all that meeting chatter into usable knowledge.
We’re talking:
APIs that plug Otter into platforms like Jira and HubSpot,
An MCP server that connects your Otter notes to other AI models, and
An AI agent that can actually search through your company’s meeting notes and presentations.
Basically, Otter just went from taking notes to connecting the dots.
Liang told TechCrunch this is the next phase of Otter’s evolution — from notetaker to “corporate meeting knowledge base.”
His reasoning? Most of a company’s valuable knowledge gets trapped in conversations that never see daylight. Teams repeat plans, lose updates, or forget who said what.
As Liang puts it:
“Inefficiency happens because of information silos.”
And Otter’s trying to tear those walls down — one transcript at a time.
Of course, it’s not all smooth sailing. There’s a class-action lawsuit questioning Otter’s recording practices, and privacy concerns still hang in the air. Liang won’t comment on that, but he stands by the bigger picture — that AI can help humans work smarter when used responsibly.
So yeah, Otter’s not just your digital stenographer anymore. It’s turning into the coworker who actually remembers everything.
And if AI’s showing up to your meetings anyway… might as well let it take better notes. 📝
