🤩 New AI Tools in Photoshop!

Adobe's shaking things up in Photoshop with some generative AI goodies powered by its new Firefly Image 3 foundation model.

The star of the show is the “Reference Image” tool, which lets you upload an image to guide Adobe's AI in creating your designs — No more wrestling with lengthy prompts; just show Photoshop what you want!

Just remember that you must have the rights to the images you want to use as a reference.

But once that’s settled, Adobe says this new referencing tool is still “safe for commercial use,” and your uploaded images won’t be used to train Firefly.

There are a whole lot more generative AI features like "Generate Background," "Enhance Detail," "Generate Similar,” etc. See them all in action here.

Oh, and it’s not just generative AI that’s getting a boost; Adobe is also adding some new, standard tools to Photoshop.

  • An “Adjustment Brush” that lets you make color adjustments to specific sections of an image.

  • A new “Adjustment Presets “ that can quickly change an image using filters, and

  • An improved Font Browser that gives you real-time access to over 25,000 fonts.

You can try out all these new tools in the Photoshop beta desktop app here!

🆕 Microsoft Launches Mini AI Model!

Microsoft has just unveiled its latest AI marvel, the Phi-3 Mini, the first of three small models the company plans to release.

With 3.8 billion parameters and a training dataset smaller than giants like GPT-4, this little dynamo outperforms its predecessor, Phi-2 (which hit the scene in December and held its ground against big shots like Llama 2).

It is also better at coding and reasoning, dishing out responses almost as good as models ten times its size!

In fact, the Phi-3 Mini is just as capable as LLMs like GPT-3.5, just in a smaller, budget-friendly package ideal for your personal devices like phones and laptops.

So, what's the secret sauce to all this awesomeness?

Microsoft trained Phi-3 with a “curriculum” inspired by how kids learn from bedtime stories, books with simpler words, and sentence structures that talk about larger topics.

Phi-3 Mini is also already available on Azure, Hugging Face, and Ollama, so if you're curious, give it a try.

You can read the full overview of Phi-3 Mini here before you get started.
