🤩 Reddit's AI Push: What's Coming Next!

Reddit is stepping up its AI game!

During a recent earnings call, CEO Steve Huffman announced plans to test AI-powered search result pages that will summarize and recommend content.

This awesome new feature is designed to help you dive deeper into content on the platform and discover new communities.

To bring it to life, Reddit will use a mix of first-party and third-party technologies, and testing will begin later this year.

Surprised? Well, you shouldn't be!

In May, Reddit partnered with OpenAI, which enables it to use OpenAI’s large language models and build AI-powered features for Redditors and mods.

A similar deal was also inked with Google earlier this year.

So, it was quite obvious that this kind of AI-powered search feature would be on Reddit’s radar!

Reddit’s AI-powered translation feature is also becoming a big hit.

France is one of its fastest-growing countries, and they're starting to expand the feature to German, Spanish, and Portuguese.

And as for Reddit’s user base, it is booming!

They reported a whopping 342.3 million weekly active users for the second quarter, a 57% increase from last year.

And to top it off, the company's revenue has soared to $281.2 million, surpassing Wall Street's estimate of $253.8 million.

Phew! There's a lot happening at Reddit, and it's definitely worth keeping an eye on.🧐

😱 The rise of fake AI-generated obituaries online!

Hey! Have you heard about the recent surge of fake obituaries dominating Google search results?

It's quite alarming, but unfortunately, it's true!

These obituaries, many of which are AI-generated, are not only targeting celebrities but also regular folks, all in an effort to drive clicks and ad revenue.

A watchdog group called Check My Ads recently uncovered some of the intermediaries making money from these deceitful obituary spams.

HausaNew.com.ng is one such site that has been churning out fake obituaries.

They even published a fake obituary for 20-year-old Harrison Sylver, who tragically died by suicide.

The worst part? When you click on the obituary, it redirects you to a completely unrelated job listing site!

HausaNew.com.ng isn’t alone in this; Sylver’s mother, Nancy Arnold, discovered numerous other fake obituaries with incorrect details about her son.

Another site, SarkariExam.com, has also been caught generating inaccurate obituaries solely for ad revenue.

And get this: there are many more entities making money from this unethical practice!

Check My Ads found connections between these sites and ad firms like TripleLift, which is now investigating its involvement and plans to update its policies to ban AI obituary spam.

On the other hand, firms like Teads did not respond to these findings.

Even Google has benefited from these sites, including the ones posting bogus obituaries about Sylver!

Although Google has pledged to reduce the visibility of such spam, in fact a Google spokesperson claimed they have taken appropriate action against these violating contents.

Let's hope their actions will be effective and that they will keep their promise!
