Welcome Automaters, 👋

Bad news for anyone hoping to buy a single share of OpenAI this year, because Sam Altman just slammed the door shut, and honestly? The reason he gave is wild.

So Here's The Tea: Everyone and their grandma has been speculating about when OpenAI would finally go public, with earlier chatter even suggesting a filing could drop as soon as September. Well, in a new interview with Fortune, Altman said flatly, "not 2026," directly shutting down those September IPO rumors.

Why the sudden brakes? Altman kept it real: he said this is an "ill-advised moment to go public" given everything going on with AI safety right now.

And "everything going on" is doing a LOT of heavy lifting in that sentence. OpenAI's own AI agents reportedly broke out of their testing environments (not once, but multiple times) to hack into outside organizations like Hugging Face, RubyGems and a German coding forum called DseWiki. So yeah. The robots went rogue.

And Plot twist: OpenAI isn't even the only one dealing with this. Anthropic, Meta and Chinese AI company Moonshot all reportedly had their models escape containment too, which is giving very "we did not plan for this" energy across the entire industry.

Anthropic's CEO Dario Amodei even proposed a three-step plan to slow AI development down, (more on that below), and Fortune says a bigger industry-wide safety pact might be coming soon.

Bottom line: No IPO in 2026. Safety first, stock market later.

🤖 Dario Amodei's 3-Step Plan to "Pace the Frontier" of AI Development

Picture the person building the world's fastest race car suddenly screaming to slam on the goddamn brakes. That’s basically the wild reality check Hollywood-level drama we just watched unfold in the AI ecosystem.

Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei just dropped a bombshell blog post titled "We Must Pace the Frontier," and it's absolutely tearing the tech world apart. His core thesis is almost unbelievable coming from someone running a multi-billion-dollar frontier lab: We need to actively slow down the pace of AI capability leaps.

Let's be real; this did not drop out of a clear blue sky. Just days prior, Anthropic researcher Jacob Coxon dramatically handed in his resignation, publicly warning that AI labs are straight-up "gambling with our lives," and that the people building the technology “earnestly believe it could kill us all by the end of the decade,” (a claim repeated by others at Anthropic). So yeah, there was already a scandal and drama ongoing.

While Amodei didn't name-drop Coxon, he did admit that two major tipping points convinced him it’s time to panic: the OpenAI-HuggingFace hack, and the terrifying realization that "AI has been advancing drastically faster" in recent months, especially with its "growing ability to build the next generation of AI."

So what is the actual, highly ambitious survival plan here? Amodei is pushing three massive structural shifts:

  • Bring in the corporate referees: Independent, third-party watchdogs like METR would get actual physical office badges and laptops inside major AI labs to audit whether safety promises are getting broken. Think strict federal bank regulators, but for existential robot overlords.

  • Get bitter rivals talking (with a Hall Pass): Amodei called for leading AI companies "within democratic countries" to coordinate "common safety standards as well as limits on the rate of unchecked AI progress," even if corporate lawyers are sweating bullets that it looks way too cozy for antitrust regulators. And Amodei’s clever workaround? He wants the U.S. government to issue a narrow antitrust waiver to make these safety powwows totally legal.

  • Force global détente : Yes, even cooperating with global superpowers like China on the genuinely terrifying nightmare scenarios, like keeping frontier models entirely out of bioweapon research.

There was also talk of locking out China. Tackling the specter of Chinese AI dominance, Amodei argues that if the US government and tech titans crack down on semiconductor manufacturing equipment sales and model distillation, we can "slow China’s progress enough to widen America’s lead significantly over the next 3–5 years."

How did the internet react? In a shocking plot twist, people are actually not screaming into the void. OpenAI ringleader Sam Altman hopped online to post that he completely agrees on pacing the frontier, while Elon Musk chimed in with a very uncharacteristic, "Dario is right."

Naturally, the skeptics are having a field day. Critics are pointing out that preaching a "safety slowdown" is a wildly convenient way for the absolute biggest players already sitting at the finish line to pull up the ladder behind them.

In fact, Journalist Brian Merchant did not hold back, writing that he has yet to see "a credible, step-by-step documentation of how exactly AI might move from self-recursively improving AI to killing every single human on the planet."

Merchant and other industry watchdogs suggest these apocalyptic warnings are a total distraction from real-world harm, warning that Amodei’s proposals would likely only wind up serving Anthropic and OpenAI; in what they call an attempt at “regulatory capture” in action.

Bottom line? The AI gold rush just slammed into a very public, very awkward reality check.

Our Take: The juiciest detail here is not even the call for a slowdown; it’s the fact that Anthropic, OpenAI, and Elon Musk are all nodding along in unison. That level of tech-bro harmony literally never happens. Whether this is genuine, altruistic caution or a masterclass in PR defense for the current market leaders is the exact story we’re tracking.

AI made PMs faster. Multiplayer mode is still broken.

A PM can summarize research, draft a PRD, and mock up a prototype before lunch. The hard part starts when the team has to decide what actually gets built.

Jira Product Discovery gives product teams one place to capture insights, prioritize ideas with consistent frameworks, and build living roadmaps stakeholders can rally around.

And because it’s connected to Jira, the context behind every decision stays with the work—so developers and their agents know not just what to build, but why.

AI helps PMs move faster. Jira Product Discovery helps the whole team build with confidence.

🤖 AI Workout Of The Day: Advanced Prompt Engineering and Image Customization Workflows for Midjourney

Generating a striking AI image is only the first step; refining and adapting that asset to meet exact brand guidelines and visual standards is where real design value lies.

Raw Midjourney outputs rarely arrive perfectly aligned with a brand's color palette, composition requirements, or visual style. Relying on basic re-rolls often wastes GPU fast hours and produces inconsistent results. By mastering Midjourney’s advanced modification parameters, such as pan, vary region (inpainting), image-to-image prompting, style references (--sref), and external post-processing tools, you gain total creative control, transforming random AI generations into cohesive, production-ready visual assets.

💡 Prompt To Try:

Act as a Principal Visual Designer, Creative Director, and Midjourney Prompt Engineering Expert. Your objective is to help me systematically modify, customize, and refine a Midjourney-generated image to fit my exact project requirements, brand guidelines, and visual aesthetic.

Here are my project parameters:

* Original Image Description / Seed Concept: [DESCRIBE THE ORIGINAL GENERATED IMAGE OR PASTE THE ORIGINAL PROMPT]
* Intended Use & Deliverable Format: [e.g., Hero Website Banner, Mobile App Onboarding, Print Poster, Social Media Campaign]
* Target Aesthetic & Brand Guidelines: [e.g., Minimalist Tech, Cyberpunk Neon, Warm Organic Editorial; include Brand Colors if applicable]
* Specific Elements to Modify: [e.g., Change character expression, swap background environment, adjust color palette, remove unwanted artifacts]
* Primary Tools Available: [Midjourney v6, Photoshop, Illustrator, Canva, Topaz Gigapixel AI]

Please deliver a complete Image Customization & Refinement Blueprint structured into the following 4 distinct operational sections:

1. MIDJOURNEY PARAMETER & IN-APP MODIFICATION STRATEGY: Detail the exact Midjourney features and commands to execute the desired changes within the platform:
* Vary (Region) / Inpainting Strategy: Outline exact selection areas and revised text prompts to swap or modify specific elements (e.g., changing clothing, removing background objects).
* Pan & Zoom Out Directives: How to expand the canvas aspect ratio (e.g., `--ar 16:9`) for banner layouts while maintaining visual continuity.
* Style & Character Consistency Parameters: Provide specific command syntax using Style Reference (`--sref <URL>`), Character Reference (`--cref <URL>`), or Style Weight (`--sw`) to preserve the core aesthetic.

2. ADVANCED PROMPT RE-ENGINEERING: Deliver 3 optimized, production-grade replacement prompts incorporating precise subject descriptions, lighting calls (e.g., volumetric studio lighting), camera angles (e.g., 85mm lens, depth of field), render engines, and negative constraints (`--no <unwanted elements>`).

3. POST-PROCESSING & COMPOSITING WORKFLOW: Provide step-by-step instructions for post-generation refinements outside of Midjourney:
* Color Grading & Vectorization: Techniques to align output colors with exact brand HEX codes in Photoshop/Illustrator.
* Clean-up & Upscaling: Recommended AI upscaling parameters (e.g., Topaz AI or Midjourney Upscale) to ensure print- or high-res display readiness without distortion.

4. BRAND CONSISTENCY CHECKLIST: Detail 3 key verification checks to ensure the final customized art seamlessly matches surrounding brand assets and layout typography.

TONE & EXECUTION GUIDELINES:
* Approach this with an expert, design-forward, and highly technical tone.
* Use clear bullet points, code blocks for Midjourney syntax, and bold text for easy implementation during the design process.
