🤯 AI Takes a Back Seat in Apple and Google's Best App Awards!

The year is coming to an end, and both Apple and Google have just revealed their best apps and games of the year!

Apple's iPhone app of the Year went to hiking and biking companion AllTrails, while Google crowned the educational app Imprint: Learn Visually as its best app.

And both tech giants agreed on the Game of the Year, with Honkai: Star Rail leading the pack.

What’s interesting about this year’s top picks is that neither Apple nor Google crowned an AI app despite the record-breaking success of ChatGPT’s mobile app and others. (See Apple’s list and Google’s list here)

This is particularly odd given that ChatGPT became the fastest-growing consumer application in history earlier this year when it reached 100 million users shortly after its launch, and that record was later broken by “Instagram Threads”, which hit 100 million users within just five days, and as of October had still maintained an active user base of just under 100 million.

Even more interesting is the fact that Apple appears to have followed a different selection process than in previous years.

Usually, its App Store winners included apps that were new to the store or that had taken advantage of a recently released technology in an innovative way. But this year’s winners included well-established apps like the language learning app Duolingo and travel app Flighty.

On the bright side, generative AI wasn’t completely left out!

Apple named generative AI the “Trend of the Year,” and rounded up a collection of generative AI apps that showcased this trend.

While Google, which allows users to vote for their favorite apps unsurprisingly ended up with ChatGPT as User’s Choice App of the Year.

🥳 Celebrating One Year of ChatGPT’s Growth And Success!

Can you believe it's been a year since ChatGPT took the world by storm?

The mobile app, initially launched on iOS in May and later on Android in July, has exceeded a whopping 110 million installations and boasts a consumer spending nearing $30 million.

Fueling ChatGPT's triumph is the exclusive $19.99/month ChatGPT Plus subscription, that provides users with coveted perks such as peak-time access and quicker responses.

Despite its relatively steep subscription cost surpassing that of many music and streaming services, global spending on ChatGPT's mobile apps has soared to a remarkable $28.6 million, as reported by data.ai.

The report attributes ChatGPT's impressive standing to the soaring demand driven by consumers' fascination with ChatGPT Plus access.

In the realm of downloads, ChatGPT outshines its AI counterparts, boasting a weekly average of over 4 million. Leading this charge are India and the U.S., each contributing approximately 18% and 17.5% of the downloads, respectively.

Upon its release on Google Play, ChatGPT's Android downloads witnessed a record-breaking adoption, with a staggering 18 million new installs within a week — a feat yet to be surpassed by other mobile apps, as noted by data.ai.

While ChatGPT's figures are indeed impressive, it falls short of claiming the top chatbot revenue spot, with Ask AI leading the way by offering various lower-priced in-app purchase options for premium features.

In the category of the most frequently used AI app, an analysis by Android data indicates that ChatGPT ranks third, following Character AI and Chai — both being apps that allow users to create personified AI chatbots while permitting more user sessions compared to the utilitarian ChatGPT.

Yet, the landscape may shift with the advent of special-purchase GPTs, hinting at potential changes in ChatGPT's usage dynamics, as suggested by data.ai.

While not clinching the top spot in revenue or usage, ChatGPT's sustained growth paints a promising future. 🍾🎊
