📸 YouTube's New Video Authenticity Label!

YouTube’s getting serious about what’s legit and what’s not!

They’re rolling out a new label that basically tells you, “Hey, this video was shot with an actual camera and hasn’t been tampered with.”

It’s called the “captured with a camera” label, and is powered by something high-tech called the C2PA standard.

Think of it as a digital seal of authenticity for videos—basically, a standard that traces a video’s origins to ensure it’s legit and hasn’t been edited into oblivion.

And guess what? Trupic, a content verification service, just uploaded what they claim is the very first YouTube video with these C2PA Content Credentials.

But here’s the catch:

Only devices and tools that support C2PA version 2.1 (or higher) will trigger this new label – yep, it’s that specific.

So, while YouTube’s all about transparency, you probably won’t see this label on every video in your feed just yet.

Also, just because a video has the label doesn’t mean it’s completely untouched.

It can still be edited, but only if those edits don't mess with what they call the “chain of provenance.”

How, you ask? Well, you can’t make changes that hide where the video came from or significantly alter its content.

Essentially, you can edit, but don’t go crazy or overdo it with major edits, like messing with the video’s visuals or audio; that’s a no-go.

Plus, if you save a C2PA-tagged video to your phone’s regular ol' photo album or use non-supported tools to edit it, the chain of provenance is broken, and the label disappears.

So yeah, it’s a bit tricky to deal with, but hey, it’s a step in the right direction, right?

And if you’re wondering about AI content, YouTube has you covered with an “AI-generated” label it launched earlier this year.

The only snag is that it’s all self-reported, so fingers crossed that everyone plays by the rules.🤞

In short, YouTube is trying to help you figure out what’s real and what’s been tampered with.

But since this label relies on some pretty specific tech, don’t expect to see it everywhere—at least not for now.

So, if you come across one of these rare labels, consider yourself lucky—it’s practically a YouTube unicorn.😀

🤩 Mistral Launches New AI Models for Edge Devices!

Exciting news from French AI startup Mistral.

They've launched “Les Ministraux,” its first generative AI models designed for edge devices like laptops and phones.

Two models are available—Ministral 3B and 8B.

They can be used or tuned for various applications, from basic text generation to completing tasks in conjunction with more capable models.

Each model boasts an impressive context window of 128,000 tokens, which means it can ingest roughly the length of a 50-page book.

Want to try these bad boys? Ministral 8B is available for download but only for research purposes.

As for those who require either Ministral 8B or Ministral 3B self-deployment setups, they must contact Ministral for a commercial license.

Alternatively, developers can access Ministral 3B and 8B through Mistral’s cloud platform, La Platforme, and other clouds with which the startup has partnered in the coming weeks.

Oh, and let’s not forget about costing:

Ministral 8B costs 10 cents per million output/input tokens (equivalent to around 750,000 words), while Ministral 3B costs 4 cents per million output/input tokens.
